On the other hand, we can choose the option to “Export/Import” all the data from Caliber. This is ideal both for making a backup copy of all the program’s content (book, settings, add-ons, etc.), or for exporting it to a new computer. We will review both methods below.

The first thing we are going to do is open the application on the computer where we have organized our entire library of books. If we look at the top bar we will see that it contains a wide variety of icons with the different categories. Of all of them, we are interested in the icon called «Library of Caliber». We click on it and then select the option called “Change or create library” which is what interests us in this case.
This will cause several options to appear on the screen, thanks to which we will be able to change the location of the active library, move it to another site or create a new empty one. If we are going to change computers, a good option is to select the option “Move current library to new location”. Now in the “New location” section, we select a folder from an external hard drive, flash drive or a cloud storage system where we want to move it and click on the “OK” button.
Once we have saved the library off the old hard drive, we can now open Calibre on the new computer. The first time we open it, the program itself will take care of asking us from which path we want to create or use the library. In this case we select the path of the device where we have saved it before. Subsequently, click on the “Calibre Library” button and on the “Change or create library” option. Again, the three available options will appear, so we select the “Move the current library to the new location” option and click on “OK”.
Export or import all Calibre data
This popular manager of electronic books has a function that allows, on the one hand, the export of all the content and, on the other, the import of these, so it can be very useful for making backup copies. In this way, we can keep all our content safe and prevent it from being lost.
In the same way, this is a functionality that can be extremely useful in the event that we are going to change equipment, something quite common for most. It may be the case that we have acquired another computer and we do not want to recreate the same library that we already had on the old PC with Calibre. And it is that it can be composed of a multitude of titles and configuration options that we have been customizing over time. Therefore, this backup copy that we are talking about will allow you to take that program file to the new computer quickly and easily and restore our personal library.
Export all caliber data
To do this, we are going to click on the “Calibre Library” icon that we find in its upper toolbar. This will open a dropdown menu with a list of options, from which we select «Export or import all data from Calibre«.
In the new window that appears, we must click on the first option, “Export all caliber data”. Here, books, settings, and plugins are included, all in a single folder. In this way we can easily move a caliber installation with all the data to a new computer. We can also replicate the current configuration or on a second computer, as well as have a backup.
Once we click, a new screen appears. Now, in the dialog box we must select the library that we want to export and click on “OK.” Finally, we only have to select the folder where we want to save the backup. This process will create a series of files around 1 GB in size where our entire library will be stored. Finally, we can save it on a backup unit, an external storage device or simply in a place that we consider safe.
Import previously saved data
Once finished, we already have imported the library with all the data safe. Now we can restore it and import it again in case of any loss or simply move it to our new computer.
To do this, we open Calibre and click on the “Caliber Library” section that we find in the upper toolbar. In the menu that opens, click once again on “Export or import all Caliber data”. Subsequently, in the new window that appears, on this occasion we select the option to “Import previously exported data”.
On the next screen we must specify the folder in which the previously exported data is stored and which we now want to import again. To do this, click on the button “Choose Folder” and we select it.
This will bring up a warning popup indicating that carrying out this action means that all libraries, configurations, plugins, etc. will be imported again. In this case, we should only continue if we have previously exported this data. As it is, we click on “Yes”.
On this screen we specify the new location for the library we want to import. This must be an empty folder on our computer and if it is left blank, the library will not be able to be imported. Once selected, click on “OK” and the process will be completed immediately.
In this simple way we have been able to export and import all our stored and organized eBooks. So we can change the hard drive or have a bacup to be prepared for any misfortune. This is something that becomes especially important if we have been using this powerful electronic book manager for several years, something that happens with many users around the world. And it is sure that none of these want to lose their personal content library or the configuration that they have established over time in the program that we are dealing with here.
Find duplicate ebooks in Caliber
Sometimes we come across libraries that hold hundreds or even thousands of titles. It is true that Caliber presents us with many functions so that we can manage all this in the best way. But at the same time we must also do something on our part. For example, we have to configure the program well, as well as add books in the correct way.
But of course, if we deal with thousands of titles, for example, sometimes we can add ebooks repeated. To say that to add these elements it is enough that we click on the Add books button. In the drop-down list that appears at that moment, we can see all the options available to us in this regard. When we have a virtual library in Caliber with several thousand titles, it is quite common to find several duplicate books. These, in addition to taking up space unnecessarily, make the structure of the library ugly as such, so we are going to see how to solve it.
In the event that we have opted to use Caliber to manage our library of books, this is a function that it does not include by default. But at the same time we can use it in a simple way in order to find and eliminate these duplicate books that we are talking about. For this we only have to install a plugin that will be very helpful in all this.
In this case we will use the plugin called find duplicates that we install in the program. This adds a new button that corresponds to the plugin we have installed. Therefore, we only have to click on it for the process as such to start working. By clicking on the button called Find Duplicates, we will see that a new window appears that allows us to customize the search. It is worth mentioning that from here we can search for repeated books depending on their title, the ISBN or by binary comparison. In addition, we can specify the similarity of the title of the book or the author, and order the display of results on the screen.
Once the parameters that we are discussing have been specified, all we have to do is click on Accept to show the results found. That is, the duplicate books that meet the parameters that we configured before in order to be able to delete them.
Using third-party applications
As we have mentioned above, Caliber’s interface is anything but intuitive, which is a barrier for less experienced users who don’t want to complicate their lives by accessing all the options that the application makes available to us. Although Caliber allows us to export all the content that is stored, in case we are going to change our computer or hard drive or, simply, as a precaution in case we lose access to the operating system, we can also use third-party applications that are responsible for synchronizing all file modifications quickly and easily.
AlwaysSync
One of the best applications for making incremental backups is . This application, which in its beginnings was completely free, now there is also a paid version, is responsible for analyzing the content of both the directory that we want to copy and the directory where the data will be copied. In this way, only will copy files that have been modified and not all stored content. In this way, the time required to make backup copies is greatly reduced, especially when the content to be copied takes up a lot of space.
The best:
- It automatically analyzes all the contents of our folders in a personalized way to create the backup we are looking for in this case.
- We can configure the application so that it updates by itself the files that we are updating or modifying in order to ignore the process.

- While this solution was free in the beginning, to benefit from all these functions now we will have to pay.

It is a completely free application that also allows us to make backup copies by establishing rules that must be followed to carry them out. For example, we can create a rule that only copies files that have been modified recently or after a certain date. The interface is not as friendly as the one that AlwaysSync offers us, however, it includes a large number of options to customize even the smallest detail of our Caliber backups.
