Citroën has just taken a further step in this race for urban mobility that the brands are competing for on a par with the marathon of the electrified or the gymkhana of SUVs. Because the Citroën Ami is already among us, a “mobility object”, because we cannot call it a car or a vehicle, because it is not.
We are talking about a quadricycle 2.41 meters long by 1.39 m and 1.52 wide, with capacity for two people, weighing less than 500 kilos, of course totally electric, for which you do not need to have a driver’s license. drive cars and, beware! It will be on sale for 6,900 euros. Although you can also enjoy it for 19.99 euros per month for rent for 48 months –after paying an entry of 2,644 euros–.
Something bad? Evidently. Just as Dracula was an “undead”, the Citroën Ami is an “uncar”. And because? Because with it we cannot circulate on highways or motorways. It’s basically a moped with wheels.
Although, of course, living in the times in which we live, having a “thing with four wheels” – at Citroën they are very careful not to call it a “vehicle” – in a big city, with traffic restrictions that will go up every day more, and especially at the price at which we can buy or rent it… it is something to think about.
More data, to have it clearer. Its autonomy will reach 70 kilometres, obviously more than enough for a vehicle (no, that “mobility object”) for exclusively urban use – let us remember that, for example, in Madrid it could not access the M-30, or in Barcelona a las rondas–, you can move around for a whole day with total freedom and tranquility.
In any case, in case of need of volts, the recharging of its 5.5 kWh capacity battery takes only three hours… in a home socket. Come on! You can charge the phone and the iPhone or Samsung on duty almost at the same time. Of course, it can also be charged much faster at a wallbox or public charging point.
More things. The Ami will only be available on the outside in one colour, rather a grey/white bicolour, but it has multiple customization options with a four-colour palette (grey, blue, orange and khaki), in many details, mainly the wheels, but also trims, adhesives, etc.; and inside with two different environments (My Ami Pop and My Ami Vive).
Speaking of the interior, we have already said that it is a two-seater, in which the driver’s seat is longitudinally adjustable while the passenger’s seat is fixed in the rearmost position, so with a driver of medium/short stature the seats will not go parallel. , giving a lot of personality to the (now yes), object of urban mobility.

And although the Ami is small on the outside, inside it has enough space for two adults, who also do not have to suffer from claustrophobia, since between the windows and the panoramic roof, more than 40% of the cabin is “almost” outside.
The small wheels that move the small Citroën, just 14 inches, are placed in the four corners of the chassis to facilitate, among other things, a turning radius of just seven meters, to further emphasize the urban philosophy of the model.
Inside, the screen where we will handle the multimedia and the browser will be very familiar to us because it will be… our smartphone. It will be perfectly placed in the center of the dashboard with a rotating clamp to be able to place it to our liking. Inside we can also customize to our liking, with one or more of the four aforementioned colors, both the mats and the storage space on the dashboard, the telephone clip, etc.

In short, we are talking about another small “revolution” in a car market that never ceases to surprise us with new ideas and proposals. The Ami, which will hit our streets –not expressways or highways– in the second half of the year, can also be purchased directly on the Internet.

Finally, a historical curiosity. The Citroën Ami 2020 (its official name) is a tribute to one of the vehicles – this time yes – of the French firm, the Ami (“friend” in French), a compact with an unmistakable nose that was manufactured between 1961 and 1979 , and that was born to cover the great gap existing at that time between two of the greatest Citroën myths: the DS (“Shark” for many of us) and the 2 CV.
