Madrid, May 30 (EFECOM).- The CiU spokesman in Congress, Josep Antoni Duran i Lleida, once again demanded today that the Government close the Public Rental Company (SPA) and asked for a plan similar to the so-called Operation Madrid camp.
In his speech in the debate on the state of the Nation, Duran i Lleida stated that the management of the SPA has been “a failure” and is not meeting its objectives and asked the Prime Minister, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, that his resources are used for rental policies administered by the Autonomous Communities with exclusive powers in housing matters.
The CiU spokesman recalled that his parliamentary group has requested that public land of the State, facilities of the Ministry of Defense, disused railway infrastructures and Civil Guard buildings be made available to the Autonomous Communities and municipalities to allocate it to construction of sheltered housing.
In this sense, after evoking the Madrid camp operation, Duran i Lleida wondered: “When will a similar operation be carried out with the Navas barracks, the La Verneda barracks and the site on Roger street in the Sants neighborhood”.
Operation Camp declared the land of the former Defense barracks located in this neighborhood of Madrid suitable for development.
The first phase, approved in January 2005, involves the urbanization of 2.1 million square meters and the construction of 10,700 homes, while in the second it is planned to develop another 6.8 million meters. EFECOM
