Create Outlook or Hotmail email account

This change has confused many users, as it is possible keep our hotmail account as @hotmail.com, even though we are using the Outlook service instead. New users can create either an @outlook.com, @outlook.es or @hotmail.com account. Therefore, Outlook and Hotmail are the same email service, but with different names.

Steps to create a Hotmail account

If we want to register a new Hotmail email account for free, we just have to follow a few simple steps. The first thing we must do is click on the button create free account.

On the next page we must enter the name of our, always keeping in mind that this must be unique, no spaces and no special characters like (@,#,¬,& etc) and being able to use numbers, letters and numbers, as well as choose the domain. On the right side by default, @outlook.es appears, although if we display it, we have the option of choosing @outlook.com, or the one that interests us in this case @hotmail.com. Once selected, click on Next.

Next, we must enter a password with a minimum of 8 characters that we will use later to access our email account. This must be as safe as possible and it is advisable to mix the use of letters, numbers, uppercase, lowercase and even special characters. If we do not want to receive advertising from Microsoft, leave the box “I would like information, suggestions and offers about Microsoft products and services” unchecked and click Next to continue.

In the new screen, we must introduce our Name and surname. Although we will be able to put what we want since Microsoft is not going to be in charge of verifying if this data is true or not, it is recommended that it be true data, especially if we want to use it professionally. If the use that we are going to give to this new account is personal and we would not be interested in losing access to it, we must enter all the data correctly, including the date of birth since it will be one of the questions that Microsoft will ask us at the time to try to recover the account if our account has been hacked or we have lost the password and we have not indicated a recovery account. Once finished, click on Next.

Next, we are asked for a little more information to set up our account. We must introduce our birthdate, which will help Microsoft provide us with age-appropriate settings. But, in addition, it will also allow us to recover the account in case we forget the password or someone hacks our account.

It is advisable to always enter the real data to avoid having problems when recovering an account. This information does not leave Microsoft servers and is only used to target advertising, for nothing else. In the case of children under 13 years of age, it will be necessary for the parents or guardians to verify and give consent to the account. The account of a minor will always be associated with parental supervisionso it is necessary that they also have a Microsoft account, either @Hotmail.com, @Outlook.com or @Outlook.es.

If we are going to use the account of a minor associated with a Windows user account, we can make use of the website, a website with which we can know at all times the hours of use of the computer, the applications or games used, the websites visit and, obviously, establish a schedule of use and even block the use of the device at that time. We can carry out all these actions directly from the Microsoft website, but, in addition, we also have all these options available directly from our mobile making use of the corresponding applications available for iOS and Android.

Now and to avoid the automatic creation of accounts by bots, we must solve a captcha or audio challenge, so that we can verify that we are not a robot.

Finally, the service will ask us if we want to keep the session started so you don’t have to start again next time. This is useful if we are going to use this account frequently and we do not want to be logging in every time. Otherwise, if we have several accounts that we use regularly, we can mark No. If we are going to mark Yes, it is important that we do it on our main computer where no one else has access.

Finally, we already have our account created and it will appear on the screen. Once we have created an account, we must access its recovery options to add an email that will allow us to receive Outlook emails if we are forced to recover the password or access to our account. As I have mentioned above, it is not recommended to lie in the data that we enter, since, otherwise, it will be very difficult to recover the account.

Now we must choose outlook layout that we want to use We can choose the ad experience so that it is read in the most appropriate way, something that we can change later from the Settings section. We can opt for the Default (recommended) or Banner form. Once selected we can start operating with our account.

If we associate the account with a Microsoft 365 subscription, no ads of any kind will be shown. If we have a family account of this subscription, if possible, it is recommended to include it in the account as one more family member in order to take advantage of all the benefits offered by the subscription, including not showing ads in Outlook.

Ways to sign in to Windows

Once we already have our Hotmail account, we now have different methods to log in from Windows, either from the Outlook web, from its desktop application or through the use of other third-party clients.

From Outlook web

As with the aforementioned Google mail service, Microsoft over time also made available to its customers the possibility of managing their messages in the cloud. That is why Outlook currently has its own web service that we can access directly from our favorite browser and check our email without using any application. This option is especially useful if we need to access the mail from a computer that is not the one we use regularly, which allows us to access the account without using any application.

To start, just open a web browser and , where we will click on the Login button.

Next, we enter into it our Email address. Later we click on Next. With this we want to tell you that we will also have to use our access credentials to open the email account and check the messages.

On the next screena we write the password of Hotmail corresponding to the email to be able to access the account and click on Next.

Subsequently, a message appears on the screen asking us if we want to keep me signed in so you don’t have to start it again next time. This is only recommended if we access from our main computer, otherwise we mark no, since we should not leave our account on another PC within the reach of other users.

Once done, we can have access to all the information in our mail, being able to send and receive messages or make any type of adjustment in our account.

Once finished to operate with our account is recommended Sign off, for which we click on the circle in the upper right part, where two letters corresponding to our name and surname appear. When doing so, a drop-down menu appears where we select Sign out to return to the Outlook home page.

With the Outlook app

Microsoft has its own Outlook app for Windows. This software is part of the Microsoft Office or Microsoft 365 package, although it is possible to use it as a stand-alone tool. By accessing it and configuring our account we can always have direct access to all our mail, being able to receive notifications every time we receive a new one.

The first thing we must do is use the Windows Start menu search engine to write Outlook and select it to open the application. Once it appears we must add our account, for which we click on the tab Archive and later in Add an account.

This will open a new window where we must enter the Hotmail or Outlook email address that we want to visit and click on the button Connect.

Next, another window appears where we must enter password corresponding to the account. All this will help us to authenticate ourselves in our email account and thus maintain the security of it so that no one else can access it.

Once this is done, a message should appear informing us that the account has been added correctly, so we can start using it. To do this, click on Made and we restart the application for the changes to take effect. Once started again we will have our operating account available.

mail and calendar

In Windows it has its own email manager, designed for a both personal and professional use and being compatible with Office 365, Exchange, Outolook.com, Gmail and Yahoo! among other. To start it, just use the Start menu search engine and write mail and select it.

Once it appears on the screen we come across an interface that is simple and elegant with which we can work comfortably. To add our Outlook or Hotmail account, just click on accounts, which we find in the left column. This will open a right panel where we click on add account.

In the pop-up window that appears, we select the option outlook.com.

Next, click on the section Microsoft account and click Continue.

Next, we write our Outlook or Hotmail email address and click Next.

Then we write the password and click on the button Log in.

Once this is done, the account will be created immediately and we will have access to all the content of our Outlook or Hotmail account, being able to operate with it.

with a shortcut

Another faster method than opening the browser and entering the Outlook URL to check the mail is to create a shortcut to our team’s desktop with the link to the Outlook website. In this way, we reduce the number of keystrokes to just one. To create a shortcut to the Outlook web, we must place the mouse in a blank space on the desktop of our computer, press the right mouse button and select the option New > Shortcut. Next, we enter the following address

https://outlook.live.com/owa/

And click on Next. Next, we write the name with which we want to identify the shortcut to the Outlook web and click on…
