When we talk about multimedia content, we are referring to topics that are so widespread at the moment such as photos, videos or audio. In fact, these days these are one of the biggest attractions we can find online. What’s more, on many occasions these are an important complementary part of the texts we find on the Internet.
Something that we must keep in mind is that at the moment we use the internet both for work and for entertainment throughout the day. That is why the contents that we can find on web pages must be of the most varied. And we are not only talking about texts, but also about photos, videos, online applicationsgames, platforms of all kinds, etc.
To a large extent, the success and acceptance of these photos and videos online that we are talking about is due to the substantial improvement in our connections. And it is that they have little or nothing to do with the connections of just a few years ago. Thus, the current high speed that we obtain both in uploading and downloading content means that the use of these elements grows substantially.
How to save a photo from a website
But of course, we do not always navigate through high-speed or flat-rate connections, so sometimes we must control the upload of videos or photos. Initially, these are loaded automatically when accessing a certain website, which can mean a significant expense of data and time.
On the other hand, it may be the case that we need to get, for example, all the photos that a certain page houses, as quickly as possible. As you know, for this we can always use the traditional method, which is downloading the images one by one. This is something that we achieve, for example, by placing the cursor over the chosen content, and clicking with the right mouse button.
This is something common to most of the Internet browsers that we can use at the moment. So what we can do is download the photo in question, locally to our HDD. And, once saved, we can use it for whatever we want.
Save WebP images as PNG or JPEG in Chrome
WEBP It is an image format, developed by Google, that stands out for taking up very little space and offering a quality equal to that of the best-known formats, such as PNG or JPEG. Since the web seeks to offer the best quality in the smallest possible size, it is undoubtedly a great format for web pages. Unfortunately, its pending issue is compatibility, since very few programs are compatible with it.
If we want to download and save one of these images, for example, from the Play Store, the process is the same as for any other image, that is, right-click and choose the “Save as” option to save it as an image. . What we will see, when doing so, is that it will be in WEBP format. And unfortunately, very few apps support it. If we try to open it, for example, in Windows, we can see that almost no installed application, except Google Chrome, Edge or any browser besides Photoshop (if we use a plugin) will be able to open it together with the Windows Paint application.
natively
Luckily, there is a trick that allows us to download the image directly in PNG or JPG. Chrome identifies these types of images by adding a parameter to the end of the URL. Therefore, in order to save this image in a different format, the first thing we must do is open it in a new tab to see the full path to it, along with its parameter. Once we have the image already open in the new tab of our browser, we will look at its URL. At the end of it, we can see how the “-rw” parameter appears.
If we delete this parameter from the address, and press “Enter” to reload the image, we can see how the image reloads without problems. The difference is that, if we right-click on it and select the “Save as” option, the default format that Google Chrome will offer us will be “PNG” (or JPEG, depending on the photo), thus being able to save it in this format without problems. In this way, having the image already saved in a known and compatible standard format, we can use it without problems, for example, in the Windows photo viewer or in editing programs such as GIMP.
using extensions
If this method seems more of a hassle than a solution, we don’t need to download the images in WebP format and then convert them to JPG or PNG format. If we need to regularly download images and the download sources only offer this compression format created by Google, we can use one of the different extensions available in the Chrome Web Store, extensions that allow us to select the format in which we want to download the image. image of a website, without having to convert it later.
One of the extensions with the highest number of ratings is Save image as type. This extension, available in the Chrome Web Store and that we can install in any Chromium-based browser, adds a new option to the context menu that is displayed when we right-click on any image. This new menu allows us to select the format in which we want to download the image: JPG, PNG or WebP, if applicable. The extension automatically takes care of downloading the image in the format that we select.
Rights of use of images available on the Internet
On the internet, through Google and any other search engine, we have at our disposal a large number of images, however, that does not mean that it is an open bar where everything is free. The images available on the Internet can be classified into two categories depending on the use we want to give them:
- Creative Commons
- Commercial and other licenses
The images that are included in the Creative Commons section can be used completely free of charge on the Internet, without the need to mention who is the author or creator of the image. Most blogs, including , use this type of image, since it is not necessary to pay a license to use it. However, the rest of the images are governed by a series of licences, licenses that we must acquire to be able to use them over the Internet, since, otherwise, the owner of the rights can demand their withdrawal or financial compensation.
But, these categories not only affect the use of images on the Internet, but also affect the use in documents, both physical and on paper, that reach the commercial circuit. If we want to create a document to share with friends, a PowerPoint presentation that will not leave our computer, we can use any image, quoting the author or not. Using the User Rights filter that Google offers us when searching is really of little use, since most of the images are not categorized in any way, so when selecting, for example, Creative Licenses Commons, a large number of images are removed from the results, even though most of them use this distribution license, but since it is not specified in the image detail, Google does not know this and excludes it from the results as a precaution.
Download all photos from a web page in seconds
Specifically, we are referring to the possibility of downloading, in a matter of seconds, all the images that a certain website hosts, also with a couple of mouse clicks. It must be said that we are going to achieve this through some web applications.
Over time, these applications that we use from the Internet browser and without the need to install locally, have spread to all sectors. These offer us a good number of advantages over the local programs that we have been used to for years. It is true that as a general rule it tends to be somewhat more limited in terms of its functionality, but if we are clear about the objective we are looking for, as is the case that interests us now, these web applications are an excellent solution.
We also find them for downloading photos from the same website, so below we are going to talk about some interesting examples that we recommend you try.
Image Cyborg
As you can imagine, this is a tool that works completely online, that is, it does not require any installation on the pc. Therefore, to be able to use it, just click on . As we can see, in the corresponding dialog box we can already enter the address of the web with which we need to deal. Once the website from which we want to obtain the photos has been entered, we click on the Download Image button.
It must be said that the process, depending on the number of photos we are talking about, will take a few seconds. After that, a button called Download Images will appear. This will return us a compressed file in ZIP format that we can now save directly to the hard drive.
Likewise, its size will depend on the number of photos on the web and their quality. In addition, and as you can imagine, this file is where we will find all the files independent photographic images with each of the web images specified above. In this way and how we can see, in a matter of seconds we can have all the images that have been used to create a certain web page. Of course, we must take into account that many of these may be subject to Copyright, so we will not be able to use them freely. This becomes especially evident if we are going to use them in our own projects that we are going to republish in turn. on-line.
Well
We are talking about an application that we will not even have to install on the computer to download all the images from the same website. The entire process is carried out at the touch of a button, which is why it is a simple and affordable program for all types of users.
Bad
We did not find application configuration options to customize the process as such. Some may prefer these web photos to be downloaded independently rather than in a single compressed file today.
Bulk Image Downloader
This web application allows us to download full-size images from almost any web gallery. It is compatible with platforms like Flickr, Imagevenue, Imagefap and other popular web hosting sites. It is able to cut all the ads, pop-ups and redirects and only download the images. For its use it is not necessary to configure project files or complicated configurations. We can preview the images as thumbnails or in full size before downloading them, as well as download only what interests us. Its main drawback is that it is a paid tool that costs $19.95, although we can try it for free from
