March faces its last week with a high price for the main energies (gas, gasoline, butane, electricity…), despite the drop compared to the historical record that was set two weeks ago. Direct consequence of the prices of the war between Russia and Ukraine, but also of the high cost that the electricity companies have been adding, as well as the few measures of the Government, this fact has caused that in the face of domestic consumption, it is vital to know when it is more It is profitable to use certain appliances (iron, washing machine, dishwasher, oven…) since their consumption can vary, leading to significant savings.
As shown by the data from the Iberian Energy Market Operator (OMIE), the organization that manages the electricity markets of Spain and Portugal and collects their rates, the average price of electricity in Spain during this Wednesday, March 30, It is 255.81 euros/mWh, which represents a price 345% higher than that of the same day a year ago.
This price will be transferred at the end of the month to the bill of households that have contracted a regulated electricity bill (also called PVPC). For their part, those who have a fixed-price bill will not be affected by daily rises or falls in the price of electricity and will pay as agreed in the contract.
At what time is electricity cheaper?
With regard to the daily variation, with reasoned stability throughout the day, the most profitable hours are concentrated in the early morning and mid-afternoon. This leads to the section between 17:00 and 18:00 being the ‘cheapest’ with a price of 228.78 euros/MWh.
At what time is electricity more expensive?
On the other hand, it is early at night when prices go up, with the peak being in the section between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. (282.69 euros/MWh).

This constant increase in prices, as well as its variation, is due to the higher cost of gas in international markets, which is used in combined cycle plants. As these are the most expensive, they are the ones that, in general, mark the price in most hours.
As a direct consequence of the conflict with a supplying Russia, the price continues to rise due to the obstacles, which affects the pockets of consumers on the electricity bill.
