Last Thursday, March 31, the Congress of Deputies in which the Government was asked to annul the mandatory use of masks indoors. The proposal, by Citizens, had the favorable vote of the PSOE, in addition to other parties.
This step, however, does not mean that we can already remove our masks indoors, but that, in addition, it should have the approval of the autonomous communities.
Easter without a mask
In this sense, the Government would be contemplating the option of removing the masks before the start of Holy Week. According to a document, this would be reflected in an email that Fernando Simón himself, director of the Center for the Coordination of Health Alerts and Emergencies (Ccaes), would have sent to the Public Health technicians.
Specifically, and , Simón asked the experts if it would be “correct” to make this decision in 15 days. Thus, the suggested date would be around April 12 and 13, the eve of Holy Thursday.
The proposal of the department of Simón has not been well received among specialists in Public Health. They believe that the pandemic has not completely gone away and that it would be convenient not to rush into this type of measure, “something that has happened on other occasions.”
However, the Government could approve the removal of the masks without the support of the Alerts Committee, as it has already done in some other situation throughout the pandemic.
The Government, favorable to the withdrawal
Last week, the Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, expressed that “there is less left” for the removal of indoor masks, although she did not indicate what date they would be thinking about. She was asked about this question, she limited herself to answering that “when it is appropriate and opportune”.
Along the same lines, the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, expressed in the last control session of the plenary session that they will lift the imposition “the second after” that health professionals recommend it. “I anticipate that there is one day less to raise it,” he pointed out.
