Sometimes, it is likely that we have been browsing the Internet and that, suddenly, our Google Chrome browser has stopped loading web pages, returning an error such as “” which, although it tells us that the connection has been refused, does not delve too deep into why or what we can do to solve this problem.
Next, we are going to see the main causes of this problem and, in case it does, how we can do to solve it.
The first of the reasons, and the most common of the ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED error: The web is down
The first of the reasons why Google Chrome can show us this error is that the web page is down and does not work. Therefore, one of the first things we have to do is check if the web page is really down or if it is our problem. For this we can use that, by entering the address of the page that does not load, it will tell us if it is really down or if it is our problem.
Check your IP and network settings
Although it is strange that if some web pages load without problems and others give us the error ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSEDin case of receiving this error we must also check that all the IP configuration of our computer is correct, such as the IP, the subnet mask, the gateway and, as we will see in the next point, the DNS.
If all the IP configuration of our computer is correct, the next thing we can try is to renew it by typing in a CMD window:
Once the connection is renewed, we can test again if Google Chrome loads this web page without problems.
Check DNS
Another reason why the ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED error may appear in Google Chrome is due to a problem with the DNS servers. To reduce these problems, it is best to choose to use a DNS that is trusted and does not have any type of censorship, such as Google (8.8.8.8,8.8.4.4) or OpenDNS, among others.
We can also choose to remove the DNS cache from our computer. To do this, we will open a CMD window and type in it:
Once the process is finished, which is instantaneous, we can try to reload the web to see if everything works normally.
reboot the router
If all of the above is correct, the last thing we have to do, as always, is reboot the router. To do this, we will turn it off completely, disconnect it from the light for 30 seconds and reconnect it. This, in addition to helping us solve a problem in our local network, will help us, for example, if the web page has blocked our IP address for some reason when receiving a new one after restarting it.
Try to enter through other networks to the page
It is also possible that this error is caused by censorship or a region block. Therefore, we can also try to bypass all IP restrictions by accessing, for example, through a proxy, a VPN and even through the network Tor.
If the error persists, we must test if it is reproduced equally on the other computers and mobile phones connected to our router, and even try using another browser in order to isolate the problem until we find the cause that is generating it.
Have you ever seen this error? How did you solve it?
