”In 2030 you will have nothing and you will be happy”: the predictions that the IMF already made in 2016 return to the scene in Davos

For a few years, several countries have set themselves challenges to carry out before 2030. The so-called 2030 Agenda, which in Spain has its own Ministry, has fallen on the second vice-presidency of Pablo Iglesias, with the aim of achieving a more equal and healthy world . Some objectives that were already on the table in 2016, and for which the International Monetary Fund (IMF) made its predictions that have been recalled again at the last World Economic Forum (WEF) held in Davos with a special prominence of a phrase: .

Five years ago, a short one-and-a-half-minute video served the IMF to venture its world of 2030. A date marked in red by the main powers and that with nine years to go maintains the same challenges, with somewhat less time ahead.

“In 2030 you will have nothing and you will be happy. Anything you want to rent, a drone will bring it to your home.” It is the first of the eight predictions that the institution put on the table and they have been recalled again on the occasion of the last Davos forum where the Chinese president, Xi Jinping, attended as the main guest.

A daring phrase that has generated now, five years later, controversy on social networks. Emphasizing even the participation of the Asian leader, many Internet users question this sentence and the paradigms that it could bring with it.

“The United States will not be the first world power. A group of countries will replace it.” The second of the sentences and in line with the previous one, questions again the model that will exist in 9 years and if the new world power will come from the East with China as a leading player.

“You will not die waiting for an organ donor. Organs will not be transplanted, they will be printed.” With images of 3D printers, this phrase moves away from the previous ones and focuses on the development of technology and the benefits for health.

“You will eat less meat. It will not be a staple food for the good of the environment and your health.” Again, focused on a more sustainable world, this sentence puts the focus back on health issues and the increasingly powerful idea of looking for the substances necessary for the human body in non-animal foods.

“A billion people will be displaced by climate change. We will have to do better to welcome and accommodate refugees.” This time on social issues, but linked to the environment, the IMF paid attention to migratory movements and how to deal with a great wave of displacement in a world that is already much more globalized if possible.

“Polluters will pay to emit carbon dioxide. There will be a global price on carbon to help the demise of fossil fuel use.” Another of the prayers fixed on the environment and sustainability, in order to reduce the polluting footprint that in the 21st century has only grown.

“You will be preparing to travel to Mars. Scientists will be working to ensure life in space. The beginning of a path to find alien life?” The seventh of the phrases focuses on science and that yearned for human desire to be able to make space trips that take life to other planets… perhaps with hitherto unknown neighbors.

“Western values will be tested. The values that underpin our democracies must not be forgotten.” Finally, the IMF closed its forecasts with a new wake-up call to the world that has developed in recent years and with a slight warning to that second sentence that the United States will no longer be the main power, with the successive erosion of capitalism .
