‘Madrid runs for Madrid’ is back. The charismatic test of the capital will feature in its fourteenth edition road athletics stars such as Fernando Carro and Javi Guerra, as announced in the presentation that took place this Wednesday at the offices of the Serrano street in Madrid, post who is the main sponsor.
The test, which will take place this Sunday, opens this new year tour of the main axes of the city. There will be 10 kilometers between Plaza de Cuzco and Paseo de Camoens, passing through such iconic places as the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, Colón, Puerta de Alcalá, Cibeles, the Metrópolis building, Callao or Plaza de España.
This new route also offers a favorable slope of 100 metres, so that many of the participants will be able to aspire to achieve their personal best in the distance. On Thursday in the evening and on Friday and Saturday throughout the day, the bib number and the runner’s bag will be collected at the MAPOMA Run Center facilities.
The presentation of the event was attended by Fernando Carro and Diego García Carrera, two of the best national long distance runners of the moment. Precisely Madrid’s Fernando Carro assured that ‘Madrid runs through Madrid’ has everything for the participants. “A very central and beautiful route to enjoy, a favorable slope that allows you to run a lot and a family atmosphere that hooks you and makes you repeat over and over again. This year I will not miss it and I will try by all means to beat Javi Guerra, that surely will come for all”, he said. And it is that the Segovian Javi Guerra is another of the elite athletes who will be on the starting line on Sunday.
The event was also attended by Belén Sánchez, Territorial Director of Banco Sabadell; Elena Moreu, manager of the Madrid Foundation for Sport; Guillermo Jiménez, president of Mapoma, and Alberto Tomé, Deputy Minister of Sports of the Community of Madrid.
Alberto Tomé, a regular participant in the race, highlighted that ‘Madrid runs through Madrid’ is a social event that Madrid runners attend year after year with enthusiasm. “You live in a spectacular family atmosphere and also pass through the most beautiful urban environment in the world. This test always marks the beginning of a new course for all athletes whose passion for running moves their lives”, he highlighted.

For her part, Belén Sánchez assured that on behalf of Banco Sabadell “it is a satisfaction to once again share the enthusiasm of the people of Madrid for this race, and it has been 9 years now”. “The values projected by ‘Madrid runs for Madrid’ perfectly represent and identify the values of Banco Sabadell: solidarity, camaraderie, respect and self-improvement,” she said.
Guillermo Jiménez, president of Mapoma, was very grateful for the unconditional support of the Madrid institutions and the sponsors that support the event: “This year will be very special, because it is the first after the pandemic in which we return to normality. In addition , we are launching a route that we are convinced that the runners will like very much, and very favorable for achieving good times”, he asserted.
The event, promoted by the Community of Madrid and the Madrid for Sport Foundation, and organized by AD Mapoma with the main sponsorship of Banco Sabadell and the official sponsorship of TotalEnergies and Samsung, will give a part of the proceeds from the numbers to the foundation NIPACE (Children with Cerebral Palsy) and Firefighters Without Borders. Registration to sign up for the test will close this Thursday at 11:59 p.m.
