Mercadona has launched a new logistics block in the Los Gavilanes industrial estate (Getafe). The inauguration of this block has led to the creation of 426 jobs, within a total staff of 578 people who currently work in the Block, all of them trained to carry out their responsibility.
This new warehouse complements the activity that the Ciempozuelos logistics block has been carrying out for more than 10 years. It will serve 89 stores in the provinces of Madrid, Guadalajara and Cuenca, in addition to the online store, the “hive”, which Mercadona also has in Getafe. The company wants to guarantee and reinforce the service of the stores in the central zone of the country.
The new center has involved an investment of 28 million euros and is located on an area of 96,000 square meters. In them, a dry warehouse has been located, with a constructed area of 47,000 square meters and a fresh warehouse, where the cold and frozen area is located, with a constructed area of 19,300 square meters.
This investment effort reaffirms the company’s commitment to this autonomous community, where it currently has 190 stores. Likewise, the company has continued to consolidate its business project in this area, where in 2020 it opened 7 new stores, closed another 5 because they did not meet its new quality standards, and reformed 27 to adapt them to the new Efficient Store Model. , counting at the end of the year with 142 supermarkets with this new model.
