Mercadona will expand the Villadangos del Páramo (León) Logistics Block with a new warehouse for the reception, storage and distribution of frozen and refrigerated food products.
The current logistics block, located on a plot of 255,350 square meters, of which 90,995 are built, will now be expanded with this new warehouse that will have an area of 24,237.17 meters, representing an increase of 26.64%. of the built area.
In addition, as a step prior to said construction, 24 prefabricated modules will be assembled and installed for the storage, reception and dispatch of products at a controlled temperature together with two connecting lobbies between said modules and the current logistics block.
The planned initial investment is 11 million euros, of which 7 million would correspond to the work part, and the remaining 4 million to equipment and facilities.
This investment is in addition to the one made recently for the start-up, within the same plot, of the Data Processing Center (CPD) in which a total of 44 million euros were invested to streamline, manage in real time and improve traceability, productivity, efficiency and connectivity in all processes, which reaffirms Mercadona’s firm commitment to Castilla y León, and to the province of León.
By the end of 2021
It is expected that during the construction phase of the new facilities more than 140 companies and an average of 400 workers will operate, and that they will be finished by the last quarter of 2021.
The Villadangos del Páramo logistics block is part of Mercadona’s efficient logistics network which, as a whole, exceeds one million square meters of surface area.
Through it, the company efficiently supplies all its supermarkets with the aim, moreover, of transporting more and more with fewer resources and remaining “invisible” to the environment.
Since the company decided to bet on this innovative logistics model, which eliminates excessive effort, it has allocated significant resources to the modernization of its intelligent logistics network, for which 9,000 people work daily and in which it has invested a total of 330 in 2019. millions of euros.
