Paracetamol, Nolotil, Diazepam, Voltaren… these are the drugs that will lower their price in 2022

The last month of 2021 has begun with an interesting novelty that affects both the Government’s pocket and that of all citizens. As of January 1, 2022, almost 20,000 medicines vary in price, most of them downward, which will allow significant savings in terms of health.

The Ministry of Health has approved in recent days the provision by which more than 17,000 drugs change their cost as collected in the National Health System. (BOE) this Monday, November 29, which will mean a saving of 243 million euros, as Carolina Darias has encrypted.

A reduction that in most cases is framed on medicines administered in hospitals but also affects pharmacies, with the respective amount on ordinary citizens. The Government considers that up to 64.72 million euros will be saved in these establishments, affecting almost 14,000 drugs that are marketed here.

The review ends almost 1,000 medicines, of which more than half were in pharmacies

The review of the reference prices of drugs, which will come into force on January 1, 2022, framed on a change in the standards that set these basic costs. Since 2019, it was the active ingredient and its cost that set the price of drugs as a whole, but now it will be the ATC code (an index ordered by the WHO) who will once again manage these prices.

In this way, although the most common drugs do not vary in cost “since they were already at minimum levels” there are some popular ones that are priced down. This is the case, mainly, of insulins, enoxaparins or some drugs to help reduce bad habits such as smoking. In addition, the Health review ends with more than 1,000 medicines, of which 689 were sold in pharmacies.
