segment for email

Hello, Gerardo,

We regret that you could not see the links shared before but don’t worry, I leave their content below

How to add a contact to a segment in Mautic

SEGMENTS allow you to manage Contacts in Mautic for different purposes, including Campaigns or Funnels.

You can use segments in the campaigns and make them more dynamic. To manage contacts you need to segment them into several different categories or by objectives.

You can add contacts to specific segments as follows:

-Manually add a contact to the segment

It is possible to manually segment contacts, one by one, and not in batches.

To do so, open the page of the contact to be segmented in Mautic from Contacts.

On the contacts page you can click on the name of the contact you want to add to previously created segments.

Clicking on the contact’s name will open a separate page for that contact.

Don’t click the “Edit” button, just click the contact’s name.

Open the contact and click on the “Preferences” option from the top right arrow button.

In the “Contact Center Preferences” modal window that opens, click on the last “Segments” tab and type the segment in which you want to add this contact.

You can use this option to add or remove multiple segments.

Note: To perform any of the actions listed, the segments must exist and have contacts in Mautic to be able to perform these types of actions.

This manual segmentation action is not recommended, especially if it is going to be carried out for large numbers of contacts (100, 500, 5000) because it is a manual task that is far from the objective of the Mautic tool, which is automation.

Import contacts in Mautic

To correctly import contacts into Mautic, you must first create an Excel sheet where you debug the contacts and the fields that you are going to pass to Mautic, since any field is useless if it does not connect with the ones that Mautic already incorporates by default.

– Import using a CSV file of Contacts in Mautic

  1. Check the encoding of the Contacts Excel sheet before exporting it to CSV (UTF-8)
  2. Always use delimiter , (comma) and not ; (semicolon)
  3. Clear contact list before Import.

Clean email list means removing old or inactive contacts from your database. They can be contacts who no longer interact with your emails or old inactive addresses, who bounce or block emails or who have become spam traps.

Cleaning the email list is important because it affects the deliverability of the emails and the open rate. Cleaning your email list affects your reputation among ISPs and the worse that reputation is, the easier it is for the emails sent to end up in Spam.

There are many tools on the internet that allow you to do this:

Examples of fields in the first row of the Excel sheet:

email,first_name,last_name,mobile,phone,address1,city,zipcode,state,country,website

– Actions to be carried out in Mautic

Go to Labels > New

Create a tag “contact-imported” or similar to later tag in the import process.

Once the properly formatted CSV file has been selected, it must be loaded from the Contacts> Import option and click on “Load”.

It is important to select the correct delimiter, either , (comma) or ; (semicolon) so that the fields load delimited (separated) correctly and does not return an error.

On the next screen you have to match the fields established in the CSV file with the fields that Mautic allows, otherwise the fields will not be correlated with the correct ones and if the import is complete the contacts will not show essential data such as “email” or others.

Activate the option to NOT overwrite existing contacts.

In imports of many contacts, you have to wait for the entire import queue to be processed, which may take time depending on the number of contacts in the import process.

If the import has been carried out correctly, although it contains errors in some of the imported data, the result will be displayed and the data that for some reason could not be imported.

Once the import is complete, go to Contacts and verify if it has been carried out normally.

– Resolution of import problems

If the entire list of contacts has not been imported, the cause must be reviewed (encoding, delimiters, incorrectly named fields, etc.).

Do not import the list againit is better to delete the imported contacts and start over.

The Contacts to delete before launching the same Import again (with the same CSV file) must be delete them manually “in batch” selecting them previously.

Most of the problems with Importing Contact lists via CSV files are due to incorrectly configured Excel files, with columns of fields that do not exist in Mautic or that have not been matched with an equivalent field to the existing ones in Mautic (See Settings > Custom Fields) to know the equivalence of the field name in the column “Alias”.

in the lesson Contacts (Import/Export) From the 100% FREE Mautic Course we explain how to import Contacts to Mautic.

I hope the information is useful to you, Greetings!
