I don’t know if you were aware of this curious fact, but world consumption is dominated by 10 business groups. These corporations control most of the big brands of food, animal products, household products and cosmetics that we consume regularly today. In this list we can find companies such as Nestle, PepsiCo, Coca-Cola, Unilever either danone, companies that bring in billions of dollars each year. These are the 10 companies ranked by highest revenue volume:
1. Nestle (Switzerland). 2015 revenue: $87 billion
The Swiss corporation includes companies that produce chocolate, dairy, pet food and bottled water. Nescafé, Nesquik, Maggi, KitKat, Garnier and Purina are some of its most famous brands.
2. PepsiCo (New York). 2015 revenue: $63 billion
This multinational is specialized in the production of drinks and snacks. Among its most popular brands are Pepsi, Mirinda, Doritos, Lay’s or Cheetos.
3. Unilever (London and Rotterdam). 2015 revenue: $59.1 billion
The British-Dutch multinational is dedicated to the production of food such as Knorr or Ben & Jerry’s and personal hygiene products such as Dove, Rexona or Axe.
4. Coca-Cola (Atlanta. USA). 2015 revenue: $44.3 billion
This giant of soft drinks produces a large number of universally known brands such as Coca-Cola, Sprite, Fanta or Nestea.
5. Mars (McLean, Virginia. USA). 2015 revenue: $33 billion
This holding company produces a large number of brands of confectionery and pet products. Among them are Mars, Snickers, Twix, Bounty, M&M’s, Uncle Ben’s, Orbit, Pedigree or Whiskas.
6. Mondelez (Deerfield, Illinois. USA). 2015 revenue: $29.6 billion
This firm is mainly engaged in the production of confectionery, food and beverages. Its most famous brands are Oreo, Milka, Trident, Halls, Cadbury and Toblerone.
7. Danone (Paris). 2015 revenue: $24.9 billion
This French multinational is one of the largest producers of baby food, dairy products and bottled water. It markets brands such as Danone, Activia, Actimel yoghurts or Evian mineral water.
8. General Mills (Golden Valley, Minnesota. USA). 2015 revenue: $17.6 billion
This business corporation includes several companies that produce yogurt, ice cream or frozen dough. Its most popular brands, among others, are Cheerios, Golden Grahams, Yoplait, Häagen-Dazs and Old El Paso.
9. Associated British Foods (London). 2015 revenue: $16.6 billion
The company is engaged in the production of sugar, brewer’s yeast and various food ingredients. Its brands include Dorset Cereals and Twinings teas. It also controls the chain of clothing and accessory stores Primark.
10. Kellogg’s (Battle Creek, Michigan. USA). 2015 revenue: $13.5 billion
It is the leading multinational in the production of breakfast products, such as cereals and biscuits, and has now also entered the snack market. Among its best-known brands are Corn Flakes, All-Bran or Pringles, acquired in 2012.
