The ‘Back to the Future’ car runs its own time machine to get back on the market

‘Back to the Future’, that film saga from the 80s with protagonists beyond Michael J. Fox, continues to surprise us in our times. Many probably remember the DeLorean that allowed Marty McFly to jump through time. Well, that car was real and, although it was dressed with certain aesthetic additives for the big screen, it was still a model manufactured by the DeLorean Motor Company, with more or less commercial success.

The DeLorean DMC-12 was a private car in its time. It was manufactured between 1981 and 1982 and, under that unpainted aluminum bodywork, was hidden a two-door sports car with a gull-wing opening, powered by a PRV engine (from the Peugeot-Renault-Volvo alliance), of 6 cylinders in V and a power close to 130 CV.

His appearance in the trilogy was the perfect springboard to fame. Since then, there have been many followers of the DeLorean throughout the world. Concentrations of owners are common, who gather to enjoy their special mount on long walks at a leisurely pace, since running, this car does not run much despite the fact that its design may make it seem otherwise.

The news today is that the DMC company could be close to giving the green light to a project to re-manufacture the DeLorean. The American website autoclassics.com echoes this, citing that the company would manufacture this model by hand and with a cadence of 325 units per year. Of course, with improved components, while maintaining the essence of the car.

In the words of Stephen Wynne, president of DMC, “the biggest complaint from DeLorean users has to do with the poor performance of its engine. Therefore, the idea is to double the power and, incidentally, reduce the overall weight of the together, in order to gain performance and dynamics. The electrical system will also be much better than the original model”.

The design, in any case, would remain faithful to the original, at least on the outside, since it is the soul of the car and what has made it totally recognizable and desirable for several generations. Although it is not the first time that there is talk of the return of this mythical car to production, it seems that this time the proposal is more serious. Of course, fans are not lacking in this model, which already admits pre-reservations for the most anxious.
