Throughout history, one of the economic sectors that has best adapted to the changes that have occurred in society has been fashion. So much so that to refer to different times we can do it from the style of clothing that was used; reaching some of these to become timeless trends that are still used today. In this way, it is not a surprise that with the arrival of the internet in the 21st century, the fashion sector has managed to adapt easily, finding its place within the digital economy.

In electronic commerce, the fashion sector has presented continuous and constant growth. According to Statisticalfor 2018 this industry had a value of $439 billion, around 410,600 million euros. With a growth projection of almost 2024 of $953 billionabout 891,500 million euros, denoting an increase of more than double in value in a period of 6 years.

In this way, although the online business still has a lower market share compared to physical sales, it has been increasing progressively. Reaching an estimated 23% of the total market by 2022 and adding a 54.5% penetration rate with eCommerce within this sector. Showing itself as a stable front within the evolution of electronic commerce.

By 2020, this industry had amassed approximately 14 million buyers, with a turnover of 1,437.9 million euros by the end of that year. Starting from this proliferation of the business, we find a wide penetration of eCommerce related to fashion within the Spanish market, such as: zalando, Shein, MangoZara, among others.

On the other hand, as we have already mentioned, fashion is an industry built on trends, and in turn is a generator of trends. In this way, it presents a constantly changing panorama where styles can both change radically, and return to resume years later. In recent years, we have seen how new trends have been adopted, such as second-hand and sustainable fashion.

Men’s clothing is increasingly booming in the Spanish market

When we talk about fashion, one of the first images that may come to mind is the great haute couture catwalks, which mostly present an industry focused on women’s clothing. However, menswear also has a large market share, which has been on the rise due to a change in the culture of consumption by men, who are increasingly concerned about keeping up with certain trends within of this sector.

We can see this mainly in e-commerce, where more and more clothing brands are seen with a primary focus on the male audience. We can even see that figures such as Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo have launched their own clothing brands for men, being part of this growth. In this way, the activity within the e-commerce ecosystem in terms of menswear has increased exponentially, causing brands and designers to expand their online presence. Such is the case of a fashion brand from Cordoba whose focus is menswear, which already has 10 years of experience in the Spanish market.
