When you think of expensive things, the first image that comes to mind may be originality, the real or the authentic. When you think of expensive animals or pets, what comes to mind is purity, breed, or a good ancestral pedigree. However, if we talk about the most expensive cat in the world, those who think about the laboratory, hybridization, the hand of man and sterility will be right.
The North American company Lifestyle Pets has been the creator of the most expensive cat in the world, the so-called Ashera cat. Due to careful crossing techniques and biotechnological manipulation, this company has made, like a garment, a cat that can cost between 17,000 and 96,000 euros. I mean, very expensive.
However, the outrage at the price may come to nothing if one is outraged to learn that the difference in price is a function of the qualities that the cat has. As if it were a mobile, if you want the cat to have white hair, be hypoallergenic or have a more distinguished appearance; the value of the cat will be more or less expensive.
The Ashera cat owes its price to two main reasons. The first one refers to the origin of creation. Three exclusive species of feline are the ones that have contributed to making this cat. The cross between a domestic cat with an Asian Leopard and an African Serval is the beginning of the creation of the Ashera cat.
The second of the reasons that explain the high price of the cat is motivated by the company’s decision to manufacture few copies a year – there is talk of about 100 – and because all its sold copies are sterile to prevent others from starting the breeding of the Ashera, thus losing the exclusivity of the laboratory.
At this point in the reading, moral judgments are already established and for many the beauty of the cat is not enough to understand that there are companies that have played God. Each one with his reflections. But, those who have the cat, those who want to have it or simply those in love with cats confess with pride – or with shame – that the cat is very beautiful.
The wild and tabby appearance of the Ashera breed is one of the main reasons for the beauty of the cat. In fact, it is a large cat as it can reach up to 1.2 meters in height and 15 kilos in weight.
That large size forces you to take the cat out for a walk. Apart from this small exception, the rest of the care and the character of the animal are the same as the rest of ‘normal’ cats; except you’ll need a lot more food.
