The scammers do not rest and they do not understand respect towards certain celebrations. On the occasion of Women’s Day this March 8, a new attempt at scam has come to light trying to attract the most unwary with a hoax: that Adidas is giving away a million pairs of sneakers to celebrate this 8-M.
If you receive a message via WhatsApp with the headline ‘Adidas gives away a million pairs of shoes’ and a link, you should not click. Although there are differences, it can create confusion for some users: this link does not lead to the Adidas website, but to a kind of imitation that will take us to a game in which they will try to ‘requisition’ our data and in which we will expose ourselves to the risk of attack by a virus.
and numerous users have registered on social networks, the operation is as follows: if you click on the link, it will take us to a web page that tries to imitate that of Adidas. Below the photograph of the Adidas ‘Forum’ sneaker model, the text “You have the opportunity to get free shoes provided by adidas for Women’s Day” and, a little further down, a clock that counts down to induce you to enter a raffle for free sneakers.
If clicked to enter the sweepstakes, the page leads to a game to determine whether or not the user can enter the sweepstakes. It involves choosing a box of shoes three times: the first two times the result is negative, but the third time the user has been “lucky” (or not).
How has this scam spread? Very simple: the people who reach the end and have not yet realized it, have to share this draw through WhatsApp to a specific number of contacts. In this way, the scam reaches more mobile phones and has a better chance of reaching more unwary people.
The launch of this type of message is aimed at obtaining data from third parties or installing malware or some type of virus, but in Italy they have warned that bank details are even requested. For all this, be very careful and careful: if it is not an official link, it is better to delete it and never click.
