Vienna has once again become the most liveable city in the world, according to a report prepared by The Economist Intelligence Unit. In this way, the Austrian capital returns to the top of the podium after being out for two years due to the pandemic.
The Austrian capital was already named the best city in the world to live in in 2018 and 2019. In 2020 and 2021 it lost that privilege due to the pandemic, falling to 12th place to the detriment of Auckland, New Zealand. “Without Covid, it would probably be in the top 10, but not number one,” the report says.
To determine which cities are the best to live in, The Economist has ranked cities according to their indices of stability, health care, culture and environment, education and infrastructure.
In this way and according to the study, Vienna has been chosen the most liveable city in the world in 2022 for “stability and good infrastructure, backed by good medical care and many opportunities for culture and entertainment”.
In the list of the 10 best cities to live in, it should be noted that six are from Europe (Vienna, Copenhagen, Zurich, Geneva, Frankfurt and Amsterdam), three of them are from North America (Calgary, Vancouver and Toronto, all from Canada), one in Japan (Osaka) and one in Oceania (Melbourne).
On the other hand, the invasion of Ukraine caused all Russian cities to plummet down the list. This is the case of Moscow or Saint Petersburg, both losing 15 and 13 places, respectively. The Ukrainian capital, kyiv, was excluded from this year’s report.
