Tasty, healthy, nutritious and refreshing are adjectives that go hand in hand with gazpacho, one of the star foods of summer. It is a source of vitamins (especially vitamin C and carotenes), minerals (mainly potassium) and phytonutrients. In addition, a ration of 200 milliliters contains an energy intake of about 110 kilocalories.
To make the most of its nutritional benefits, the ideal thing to do is to make it at home from seasonal vegetables. However, in the market there is a wide variety of options to buy it prepared.
“Actually, few manage to come close to a homemade gazpacho. Very few incorporate bread into their recipes; furthermore, the oil content is very low to such an extent that a glass of industrial gazpacho provides an average of 90 kcal. Its few calories make it perfect if you want to limit your caloric intake, but it is disappointing if you want to enjoy a typical dish of Spanish gastronomy”, they point out from the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU).
Although the prepared gazpacho loses out compared to the homemade one, it is indisputable that it has some advantages. It can be enjoyed at any time, saves the time invested in its preparation and is very easy to transport. For this reason, from OCU they have made a comparison between 32 packaged gazpachos, with the aim of knowing which is better.
“We bought 32 refrigerated gazpachos and subjected them to the study of their labeling, in addition to a microbiological analysis and a tasting by expert cooks. We have also carried out a nutritional assessment based on the information that appears on the label,” they specify from OCU.
