These are the most used social networks in Spain

Social networks have become a tool that we use every day, whether to be in contact with friends and family, to entertain ourselves or to find out the latest news, almost everyone has a registered profile. Today, June 30th, the Day of Social Networks is celebrated and that is why we are going to review the trends of the Spanish on these platforms.

Today there are more than 4,650 million active users in the world with a profile on some social network, this means that around 59% of the population is on these platforms. But this data goes further, and according to information collected by Hootsuite, 91% of people who use the Internet are on one of these apps.

If we focus on the data that refers to our territory, the analyzes reflect a very similar trend and that is that 40.1 million Spaniards are active users of some social network, which is equivalent to 90% of the population between 16 and 64 years.

In the last year, there has been an increase of 8.8% in users, and according to Stefano D’Orazio, director of Southern Europe at Hootsuite “The digital acceleration accentuated by the pandemic has helped networks experience a rise unstoppable and we have no doubt that they will become increasingly relevant in our lives”

What is the top 3 most used applications

With regard to the most used social networks in our country, the WhatsApp messaging app takes the cake with 91% of all Internet users in Spain, being the favorite application among people between 45 and 64 years old.

In second position we find Facebook, which has 73% of Internet users and is the most popular app among people between 35 and 45 years old. And finally there is Instagram with 71% of Spanish Internet users with an active profile on this network, which is mostly used by people between 16 and 35 years old.

The data collected shows that on average the Spanish user spends around one hour and 53 minutes browsing social networks, with women spending a little more time online than men.

To finish the report, it includes the type of profile that Spaniards follow, with almost 60% being accounts related to friends and family, around 33% of the accounts we follow are artists, musicians and bands, 28% are profiles of entertainment and memes and finally 27% of the profiles followed by the average Spanish user are of actors, comedians and performers.
