Audio content is at its peak, and as it continues its path to success others are working on a rapid evolution to try and release their own version. This is the case of Twitter Spaces, which gradually reaches new users and integrates updates. For now Twitter Spaces is only available to a small number of users since it is in beta testing phase, and although for now there is no specific date for its launch worldwide, the social network has revealed how it will work.
Spaces: the new audio feature on Twitter
Twitter Spaces is a feature that allows you to create chat rooms by voice, in which the hosts or creators of this sound space they have control to invite users, expel them and even mute them. While Clubhouse and Twitter Spaces have a similar foundation, which is to share audio content, one of the differences is that Spaces allows you to share a link to the audio rooms through direct messages or tweets.
As mentioned by , the rooms can be public or private, there is no capacity limit, and different profiles can also be assigned among the attendees. Also, Twitter Spaces allows you to react with emojis in audio rooms, a function that is possible due to the union with Periscope.
How to use Twitter Spaces
Once it’s available, you’ll be able to start a Twitter Spaces room in two different ways:
- Press the “compose” button for more than a second and then select the new Spaces icon that is on the left of the screen, or select in the profile image “Fleets”, go to the right and select the option “Spaces”
- You can have up to 10 speakers. To choose who will be the speakers, you must choose between the “Everyone”, “People you follow” or “Only people you have invited to speak” tabs, which will allow you to send them a DM with the invitation.
- At startup, the microphone will be off, and when you are ready to start you just have to press “Start Spaces”. You must grant access to the microphone to start broadcasting.
- Choose whether or not you want the transcripts to be shared when you press the “on-off” button
New user interface and features
for Twitter Spacesincluding a new visual presentation of all speakers and listeners that are in the same room, in addition to highlighting the speakers and hosts of each of them.
Is full view of guests in a Spaces room It’s a key update as for now you could tell how many people were present, but you couldn’t have access to a full list of who was present at the time.
One more of the updates that Twitter Spaces will present is that administrators will be able to press a button to get an overview of the attendees, separated into tabs by “speakers”, “requests” (users looking to join a room) and “listeners”. Listeners will also be able to access a similar list, finding speakers and listeners in a single tab.
These improvements correspond to initial responses from Twitter Spaces users who little by little they have expanded during the last weeks. Overall feedback on this audio feature seems to be positive with some even mentioning that it is more advanced than Clubhouse itself in some respects.
The new trend in social networks: audio content
Twitter Spaces is based on the infrastructure of so the back-end architecture of the tool was already established. Thus, Twitter only needs to adapt and update the format and presentation to ensure that it meets the needs of users. and align with your expectations.
So it seems likely that Twitter will bet on fully rolling out this option globally, as it will have major implications on the fight to win over audiences in the emerging race for social audio content.
So while Clubhouse leads among social audio networks today, its position could quickly change if high-profile users can reach much larger audiences on platforms that aren’t as restrictive. Currently has about two million users and counting, audience that is built through its exclusive guest approach which has created a sense among those who have not yet been able to try it.
Time will tell if this new format manages to captivate its audience of 192 million active people a day and if this manages to unseat Clubhouse completely.
