This is the first 1.5 euro coin that will circulate in Spain: price and how to buy it

In the middle of a , the National Currency and Stamp Factory () has decided to launch an announcement that also affects currencies, but in this specific case only to Spain. Throughout this month of December, the first 1.5 euro bullion coins will be put into circulation, in what will be a great attraction for collectors this Christmas.

Since the euro was introduced, European citizens have lived with coins of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cents and 1 and 2 euros. Well, to close this 2021, in Spain you will begin to see one worth 1.5 euros… although in a very limited way.

A bullion coin, or investment, that the Official State Gazette (BOE) and so this December will be put into circulation for collectors and those interested in this type of money. With 12,000 units minted by the FNMT, its appearance is unique in Spain with motifs that are very representative of the national institutions and culture.

Proof of this are the motifs and the legends from one real to eight that illustrate its obverse, of a columnar type: two hemispheres under a royal crown, flanked by the columns of Hercules with the motto ‘Plus Ultra,’ all of this on a sea with waves . In addition, in its upper part, in a circular direction and in capital letters, the legend ‘Felipe VI King of Spain’ appears, while in the lower part, also in a circular direction, it can be read ‘1 Onza 999.9 Oro.

For its part, the reverse is dominated by the head of an Iberian lynx with the mint mark and the year 2021 to its left. On this you can see the value, 1.5 euro, while below the animal, in a circular direction, is the legend ‘Iberian Lynx’.

What is a bullion coin?

All in an investment currency or also called a bullion. Minted from precious metals, usually gold and silver, these coins are not intended for circulation, so they only store the metal from which they are made. In the case of the Spanish, it is made with 999.9 thousandths of fine gold that reaches the weight of one troy ounce (31.1035 grams) and a diameter of 37 millimeters.
