This is the new Instagram feed: the posts of your favorite contacts, arranged chronologically – Marketing 4 Ecommerce – Your online marketing magazine for e-commerce

The new Instagram feed is now available to all users. The new features that were launched on a trial basis in January this year have now been expanded globally by adding two different modes: the chronological feed and the special feed for favorites.

According to the director of Instagram, the new feed is designed to “making Instagram the best possible experience and giving you new ways to quickly see what matters most to you,” and this is an important step in that direction.

The new Instagram feed options will be available to all app users on iOS and Android operating systems. However, they will not be in the web version of the social network.

Favorites and chronological: you can choose the display of the new Instagram feed

From now on, you can choose to see your favorite accounts on Instagram. This feed will show the latest posts from the accounts you’ve chosen, such as your best friends, family, or favorite creators. You can choose this new Instagram feed or access your favorite posts above in the home feed.

You can add up to 50 accounts to your favorites list and make changes at any time. If you remove someone they will not be notified. When scrolling through the main home feed, posts in your favorites list will be highlighted with a star icon.

Regarding the description of the “following” feed, You will be able to see the latest posts from the accounts you follow in the order they were posted. Both the favorites and following view will show the posts in chronological order, only in favorites you will only see the posts of those you have selected in your list.

The traditional feed will continue as default when entering the application

To switch between different Instagram feeds and choose favorites or following, you must select the Instagram logo that is displayed in the upper left corner of the screen in the application, and choose between both options.

“Over time, we’ll add more recommendations to your feed based on your interests,” Mosseri assures in his statement.

One last important point is that you will not be able to choose the new chronological or favorites algorithm as default. The feed on the home page will continue to appear algorithmically ordered by default, something that was heavily criticized by users at the time and that affects one of the biggest problems that both Instagram and Facebook have been dragging for a long time: the generation of cameras echo in which users only see what is closest to them, separating them from other options, opinions and visions of reality. In any case, Mosseri assures that he will continue working on «create new features like favorites and following to give you more choice and control over what you see, and help make the time you spend in the app feel more intentional.”
