One of the features of this browser is its support for more than 100 languages, something that can be very useful if we use our PC in a foreign country or if we speak other languages. When it is installed, the browser defaults to our language that we normally use on our computer, but if we want to change it at any time, it can be done in a few steps. Of course, we must bear in mind that it only applies to the browser interface, as well as its menus and settings, but not to the content of the web pages we visit.
To do this, we access the “Settings” section and within the list of options that we find in the left column we click on “Advanced settings”. Later, within these advanced options, we will select the section of “Languages”. Now on the right, in the Language section, we display the list and we can configure the language we need, the first of which is the language of the browser.
We will only have to click on the button “Add languages”, to insert the ones we need. At any time we can remove any language we have added. To do this, we only have to click on the three-dot button that we find to the right of the language. This will open a small menu where we click on “Remove”, and that language will disappear from the list.
Activate automatic translation
From this same “Languages” section of the “Settings” menu we will have the possibility of both activating and deactivating the translation of websites that are not originally in our language. Just below the list, we find the option to “Ask if you want to translate web pages that are not written in a language you do not understand”. We verify that there is a switch to its right that will be in charge of allowing us to activate or deactivate this function. If the pilot is in blue, it means that it is activated, while if it is in grey, it means that it is deactivated.
In this way, if we activate the switch, when we access a web page that is in a different language than the ones we have set as the main languages, it will be translated automatically once we confirm it. When accessing the page, a small screen will appear at the top. google translate window that will indicate the language in which the page is found (left) and ours (right). We just have to click on ours to translate automatically. If we want to see the page in its original version again, click on the language on the left.
Prevent Chrome from translating websites
If we prefer to edit that Chrome by default is in charge of translating the websites that are in another language, we have different ways to do it.
turn off switch
The first one is the simplest, since it will only be necessary to turn off the switch in the Ask if you want to translate web pages that are not written in a language that you do not understand that we have seen in the previous section. In this way, we can change the language of any page by ourselves and manually, by right-clicking on the web and selecting the “Translate to Spanish” option.
And it is that it may be the case that we master several languages and do not need external help. Basically, it could be said that this function that we have mentioned in Google Chrome is focused on providing us with an automatic translation if we do not master the language of the open web. But in the event that we are going to visit websites where we have fully controlled the native language used by those portals, the functionality warning messages can become a nuisance. Thus, as we told you, we only have to deactivate it and thus make the automatic translation messages disappear.
From the Google Translate window
The other option is to click on the icon of the three points on the right side of the small Google Translate window. In this way, a small drop-down menu will not appear with different options added such as:
- Choose another language. If what we want is to translate the page into a language different from ours, we can easily change this language from this option.
- Always translate from English. It allows us to tell Google Chrome that we want all pages that are in English to always be translated.
- Never from English. Just the opposite. We can indicate to the browser that we do not want the pages that are in English to be translated to read them in their original version.
- Never from this site. One more exception. If we don’t want a particular website to be translated (for example, because it looks bad later, or because it has technical terms), we can tell you not to do it this way.
- The page is not in English. Has there been a problem recognizing the language? Tell Google and choose the source language to translate.
If we choose to always translate in that same language, each time we visit a website in that language, the “Google Translate” window will no longer appear the next time, but it will be displayed directly in the selected language. We can also choose another language for the translation, prevent that website or other sites that are in that language from being translated for us anymore, as well as report that the page is not in the detected language.
Adding a certain language to our list
Another option that we have to prevent Chrome from translating a website of a certain language is add it to our language list. For example, we want the Google browser to translate all web pages except those in French. We can leave the “Ask if you want to translate web pages that are not written in a language you don’t understand” button activated, and in this case what we do is add French to our list of languages that we understand and master. Thus, we achieve that when we visit a page in it, Chrome will not change it.
Most of the web pages that we normally visit from our browsers are in English. Spanish or some Asian languages are also quite widespread. But at the same time we can find certain websites whose contents are in less used languages as usual as German, Russian or Turkish. Thanks to the Google Translate platform offered by the search giant, in Chrome we have the possibility of configuring automatic translation into a huge number of languages.

DeepL Translator
DeepL is one of the companies that has advanced the most in Artificial Intelligence as far as text translation is concerned. While many other alternatives use algorithms that sometimes leave a lot to be desired, this AI offers very precise and natural results, to the point that we won’t know how to differentiate between a text translated by a machine or by a human being.
Thanks to this extension for Chrome we will be able to translate texts and websites without leaving the browser. We simply have to install the extension, select the text we want to translate, and that’s it. It is true that it is still in beta and may contain bugs, but the results you are getting are exceptional.
S3 Translator
Another interesting option that we have at our disposal to translate pages using an extension is S3 Translator. S3 Translator uses Google’s translation service, so we’re going to get the same quality when it comes to translating content, however, the interface is less intrusive and much simpler. In addition, it also allows us to select a text or paragraph that we want to translate, maintaining the original language of the page without modifying the HTML format of the page and unbalancing all the content, something quite common in Google Translate.
