It is for all this that we are commenting, that now we will see how to customize our desktops in the event that we work with multiple monitors.
With the Windows desktop
The first of the tricks to configure different wallpapers for two or more screens connected to the PC is to do it directly from the photos saved on our PC. As we already know, if we right-click on a photo we will see the option to “Set as Wallpaper«.
If we have, for example, two monitors connected to our computer, we can select the two wallpapers that we want to use (by pressing control and clicking, in order, on the two images) and then choose the option “Set as desktop background” what we just saw
The first selected photo will be set as wallpaper on the first monitor and the second on the second monitor. If we have more monitors connected, the process will be the same, selecting as many funds as screens we have connected. In this way we will be able to work in a more orderly way at first glance, since each screen, with its open programs, will have its own personal desktop background.
From the configuration options
In addition to the previous trick (which is usually the fastest), Windows also allows us to do this from the Configuration menu of the operating system.
To do this, we will open this menu Setting, something that, for example, we can easily achieve through the Win + I key combination. This gives us a new window with a multitude of accesses. All of them focus on giving us access to the customization and configuration functions of the operating system itself. Therefore, what interests us in this case can be found in the section on Personalizationwhere we click In the next window that appears, specifically in the panel that we see on the left, we opted for the Background option. From here we can change the wallpaper of our PC, both for one screen and for several of them. If we choose one without more, it will be used on both monitors equally.
However, if we right-click on a background, we can see a context menu. If we have two or more monitors connected to the PC we will see that, in addition to “Set as Wallpaper» Other options appear. From them we can choose if we want that background to be used on monitor 1 or 2. You can already imagine that this method offered by Windows greatly simplifies the use of several different backgrounds on multiple screens.
As we can see, with this simple trick we can improve the personalization of our desktop very easily. We remember that to be able to do this we need to have installed on our computer the latest versions of Windows. Previous versions of the operating system will not allow us to carry out this configuration. If our computer is not compatible with Windows 11, it is highly recommended to install the latest update available for Windows 10, the last major update that included, in addition to this functionality, other important new features that we will not be able to enjoy in older versions. In addition, our computer will not be protected from vulnerabilities that have been detected in previous versions of Windows, so it is highly recommended that Windows 10 be updated to the latest version, as long as it continues to receive support from Microsoft.

Using the file explorer
It is not the most orthodox method because it depends on the selection of images that we make and how Windows handles them on its own, since we will not have full control over them to select which monitor to put each one on. The first thing we must do is open File Explorer by pressing the keyboard shortcut “Windows + E” and use the Ctrl or Shift key to select multiple imagesdepending on the number of monitors we have.
Later, we right-click on the image we want to assign to the main monitor, keeping the images we want to use selected. In the context menu we select Set as Wallpaper. In this way Windows will set those images as wallpapers. The image we clicked on will be placed on the central monitor, while the other wallpapers will be randomly placed on the rest of the monitors.
As we can see, it is not the best solution since we will not have full control over where to place the images on the monitors that are not the main one. In addition, this method has some deficiencies, because if the images do not have the exact resolution of the monitor, this method will not work correctly and the photos will be in charge of rotating position randomly every thirty minutes.
With the Photos app
Another possibility to be able to change the wallpaper on any monitor is to use the Photos application that is installed by default in both Windows 10 and Windows 11. We are talking about a photo viewer that has been gaining popularity over time. more and more followers over time. This application can be of great help when it comes to setting any given image as wallpaper.
For this we only have to open the corresponding file with this application. Later, once we have it on the screen, we just have to click on any part of it with the right mouse button. At that moment, in the contextual menu that appears, we will only have to select the option Set as and Set as background.

MultiWall is one that is designed to set a desktop background on any PC setup, especially those with more than one monitor. This provides what Windows should have had long ago; make setting your wallpaper very simple.
Once you have installed it, we open the program and display a menu to configure the image or images of wallpaper. The program should display a menu with three boxes numbered 1 through 3, indicating the display order. Select the type of screen mirroring
It may be that, when connecting the second screen, we do not see anything on the PC. Because? This is because, to avoid problems, Windows is configured to only work with the main screen of the PC. Therefore, in order to start using our second screen, it is necessary to activate it previously. To do this, we simply have to press the Windows + P keyboard shortcut, and choose the mode we want to use:
- PC screen only: Use only the main screen of the PC. The second (or others) will be off.
- Duplicate: Allows you to display the same thing on both (or more) monitors. It makes it easy for others to see the same thing, but it doesn’t help improve productivity.
- Enlarge: the option that interests us. It allows us to extend the monitor to be able to take advantage of the other screens as additional desks.
- Second screen only: Turn off the main screen and leave the second screen on.
The way to improve our productivity is to “Expand”. In addition, from the Windows Control Center we will be able to place where we want to extend the desktop, being able to place the screen on any of the 4 sides to extend it towards it.
Advantages
At the moment there are many applications that we use in Windows, so working with two screens it will be very useful to us. And it is that apart from the funds that we have talked about in these same lines, the advantages and functionality of this use are undeniable. This is because we will be able to work with those programs to which we referred, in a much more comfortable and functional way. In this way we can distribute the open windows on both desktops in order to create a large multi-monitor work environment.
This saves us, as you can imagine, constantly using the Alt + Tab key combination to switch between open windows. At the same time, all of them, or at least those that come into that space, we will have in sight at all times. On the other hand, the same operating system will allow us, if one of them is of a larger format, we always have the possibility of sending the content from one to another. Disadvantages
The main disadvantage when working with multiple monitors is found in the workspace. Unless we have a desk large enough to accommodate two monitors, we don’t even need to consider the possibility. If we use a laptop, we can take advantage of the HDMI output to connect an external monitor, also taking advantage of our laptop’s screen, although it is not the most intuitive way to work, at least initially, since, since there is no linear continuity on the desktop (one side by side), we will have some difficulty finding the mouse. This problem has a solution as simple as accessing the mouse configuration options and enabling the Control key so that, when held down, it shows the location of the mouse.
If it is a desktop computer, and space rewards for its absence, the best solution instead of using two monitors is to use an ultra-wide panoramic screen.
