White is the most chosen car color in the world, with 39 percent of drivers opting for this color, followed by black and grey, according to data from Axalta Coalting Systems collected by Seat.
Although white is the most chosen color, its dominance changes depending on the region. Thus, while in Asia six out of ten cars are white, in Europe and the United States their share is around 25 percent.
In the case of the Seat brand, among the ten main markets for the brand, white prevails, with the exception of the Netherlands, where the most popular colors are gray and black. The largest share of white is taken by Spain, with 45 percent of sales.
Black is the second most chosen color worldwide, with a 16 percent share, which varies depending on the region in which it is located. Thus, in Japan, 22 percent of the vehicles are of this color and in India it is practically non-existent, due to the belief that black concentrates more heat.
According to the study by Axalta Coalting Systems, Mediterranean countries opt for more vivid tones. In Spain, red is the third most popular color among Seat customers, and in Italy it ranks fourth. On the other hand, blue represents 10 percent in Europe and the United States, while in Asia it is practically non-existent.
Luxury SUVs, such as the Audi Q8, are mostly chosen in black.
Apart from the geographical areas, the types of cars also influence when opting for a color: 34 percent of luxury SUVs in Europe are black, while in the case of compacts that percentage is reduced to half . At the same time, only 3 percent of luxury SUV customers opt for red, a percentage that in the case of compacts rises to 10 percent.
