WordPress API Course #5. We make API queries: what can we do? – .com

In the fifth lesson of the WordPress API course we are going to see what things we can do with the API, its different endpoints and possibilities to make requests.

We are going to start by reviewing a series of WordPress API options that allow us to take advantage of its use even more: Linking & Embedding. With these options we can get sub-objects within requests and filter information through other sub-objects.

For example, we can request information with a GET to obtain a page from the site and that the response includes information from the author directly in order to obtain and extend other requests from there. Let us begin!

It’s that easy to use the API! We have already seen how we can use the API and what things we can do, so from now on let your imagination fly.

We have also discovered the list of endpoints and how to understand and use the different resources. We will practice with Postman making different requests so that we can learn to handle ourselves.

Finally, we have seen that WordPress allows us to extend and extend its own API so that we can insert custom code to add our own functionality. From modifying an answer to introducing our own schemas and objects. The possibilities offered by this customization have no limits.

As homework and for you to practice a bit with the API, I encourage you to look for a way to make requests from a programming language and not from a tool. You can take a look at the official clients to do it from the official WordPress REST API documentation, in the Client Libraries section.
