Compressing a file is a technique through which, by applying a series of algorithms, we manage to reduce its size by packing it inside another file, such as a .zip or .rar file, and requiring another application to be able to decompress it and use it. However, many times it is also possible to reduce the size of a file, “compress” it, without losing quality and without having to pack it into a ZIP or RAR simply by removing unnecessary code from within the file. This is what the tool does YouCompress.
YouCompress is a completely free tool designed to allow us to reduce the large size of our files. This tool, which we can use directly from our browser without having to download anything, acts in a similar way to a file compressor, since it “compresses”, reduces, the final size of these but does not add any .zip extension at the end, .rar or similar, simply remove unnecessary information from the file code so that, without altering its result, it directly occupies less space.
This tool supports , including videos, photos, and audio. Of course, depending on the type of file in question, we have limitations on the size. For example, the will be 150 MB, that of an image 50 MB, that of a PDF document 50 MB and that of a video will be 500 MB.
YouCompress allows us compress all the files we want, without limitations, without watermarks and totally free for everyone directly from the browser, regardless of our operating system (Windows, Linux, Android, etc) and without the need to install any program on the computer.
All the traffic we generate through this platform travels encrypted through HTTPS and, in addition, the files that we upload to the cloud to compress them are safely deleted after a few hours. Of course, we must always be careful with the files that we upload since we can never know for sure the use that is made of them.
How YouCompress works
In order to use this tool, the first thing we must do is access its from our browser.
Once on this page, what we must do is click on the button «Select File» to be able to select the file that we want to send to their servers from our computer to compress it. Once selected, click on “Upload file & Compress» to send the file in question.
In a few seconds, the web will show us a new link, just above the box to choose the file that we want to compress, where the previous size of the file, the new size and the compression rate will appear. Click on this link and the download of the file will begin directly.
As we can see, the file has been reduced in size but its quality has been maintained. If we try to send the file again we will see a message, “File is already optimal“, which will indicate that the file is already in its optimal state, it cannot be further compressed.
