Music downloads exist for a reason. Not only can you listen to your music whenever you want, but it also helps save valuable mobile bandwidth. And it is precisely for these reasons that it is annoying when your downloaded music stops working. With Apple Music, this seems to be a widespread problem.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Apple Music. But the other day, Apple Music refused to play my downloads on my smartphone umpteenth. And that too when traveling. After checking, I found out that this is also a problem on iOS, but not as common.
Fortunately, it’s usually nothing serious, and there are a number of tank fixes to run to make downloaded songs play again. Let’s start with the Android version of Apple Music and see what it can do to smooth things out on iOS.
Spot: Before continuing, consider exiting and restarting Apple Music on your or iOS if you haven’t already. Relaunching an app is usually a surprisingly viable way to fix common bugs and issues. You should also try restarting your device.
Apple Music—Android
Tracks downloaded from Apple Music that refuse to play It’s a problem that can occur at the strangest of times. Let’s start with what worked (or works) for me when it comes to solving this problem and then move on to other possible solutions.
1. Enable mobile data/connect to Wi-Fi
I know: you download songs to listen to them offline or not, so they consume mobile data all the time. However, Apple Music tends to stop playing your downloads after being disconnected from Apple’s servers for some time, usually after several days.

And of course, establishing a connection to the servers solves the problem forever. Simply turn on mobile data and play a downloaded track. The track should probably start playing after a few seconds.
You can now turn off cellular data and Apple Music should continue playing tracks without issue from now on.
Sometimes turning on mobile data may not be enough, especially if connectivity is poor. In that case, try connecting to a nearby Wi-Fi hotspot. Simply turn off Wi-Fi once Apple Music starts playing your music.
If you don’t have access to Wi-Fi and have also disabled Apple Music from using your mobile data completely, the following steps should help you resolve this issue.
: Tap the vertical ellipse icon in the top right corner of the screen and tap Settings.
2nd step: Tap Mobile data and toggle the switch next to Use mobile data. You can keep the switches next to Streaming and Downloads turned off because all you have to do is connect to Apple’s servers for a brief moment.

However, Apple Music will still use your cell phone data to download album art and other miscellaneous things. Therefore, you may want to disable it completely after .
This (pretty silly) trick saved me a lot of frustration and I’m sure it will work for you too. But if not, let’s see what else you can do.
2. Clear cache
If you regularly stream and download tracks, an outdated Apple Music cache can cause conflicts and prevent the app from working properly. So let’s try to clean it up. The exact procedure varies between Android devices, but you should get the gist by following the steps below.
Step 1: Open the Settings app on your Android smartphone. Then tap Apps & notifications and tap Apps.
2nd step: Tap Apple Music and then .
Step 3: Touch to delete the Apple Music cache.

3. Download the full album
Yeah, that sounds a little crazy. But is the problem limited to a single album? The Android version of Apple Music generally does not identify whether a playlist or album only contains certain list items available offline.
Start loading another song in the playlist or album. If that doesn’t help, consider downloading the entire album.
4. Update the app
Have you updated the Apple Music app? The latest versions contain several bug fixes and performance improvements that may resolve persistent issues. If automatic updates are not disabled for your device, consider manually updating Apple Music to the latest version.
To do this, search for Apple Music on Store and visit the product page. If an update is available, tap Update. In my case, the application is already updated, so it appears as open.
Apple Music—iOS
In and iPad, Apple Music is much more stable than on Android. However, you will probably still encounter some strange cases where downloaded tracks may not play. The following fixes should help you get back to playing your downloads soon.

1. Connect to the Internet/Enable mobile data
As with the Android version of Apple Music, a brief online connection via Wi-Fi or mobile data is helpful. Once your tracks start playing, you can disconnect from the Internet.
If Apple Music is limited to cellular data usage, the following steps should resolve this issue.
Step 1: Tap Music in the iOS Settings app, then tap Mobile Data.
2nd step: Turn on the switch next to Mobile Data.
You can leave the options next to Streaming and Downloads disabled. After Apple Music works normally again, turn off mobile data again to save bandwidth.
2. Download the app
Online connection not working? Then it’s time to remove and reinstall Apple Music to get rid of corruption issues. But hey… won’t that delete your downloads? To be honest no. Instead of simply deleting the app, I recommend that you download it. That way you’ll still have your songs available after reinstallation. Perfect!

3. Update iOS
Apple Music is part of iOS. That means you can’t simply update the app from the App Store to get the latest fixes and performance improvements. If it’s been a while since you updated iOS, consider doing it now.

After iOS update, try Apple Music. If your downloaded songs still don’t play, the next solution probably will.
4. Reset all settings
I should have mentioned this tip much sooner, but simply forgetting about your Wi-Fi networks and other manually configured settings on your device meant I had to push it down the list. But since you have already used several other fixes, it is time to reset all your device settings.
Warning:
Step 1: Tap General and tap Reset.
2nd step: Tap Reset All Settings and tap Reset again to confirm.
Resetting device settings will resolve incorrect settings that may prevent Apple Music from working normally. Then play a downloaded track and you probably won’t have any problems.
Relax, Connect
Apple Music not playing songs is a very annoying and frustrating problem. But at least, it’s something that can be easily fixed. Finally, you can close your eyes and relax to the music.
