Register/pair your PS Vita with your PS3

To pair your PS Vita with your PS3, you must first register it. This is a one-time action, so if you haven’t done it already, follow the instructions below. Otherwise, skip them.

If you haven’t registered your PS Vita to your PS3

: From the XMB of your PS3, access the Definitions menu. There, select Remote playback settings from the available options, then choose register device.

2nd step: Choose psvita system from the options displayed and enter the verification code on your PS Vita.

If your PS Vita is already registered:

Step 1: In your PS3’s XMB, navigate to Network and select remote play.

2nd step: On your PS Vita, tap the corresponding icon to get started remote play. Then choose how you want (I recommend logging in via private network, the quality is much better) and that’s it. You will see your PS3 screen directly on your PS Vita.

good advice: You can also turn on your PS3 remotely from your PS Vita by choosing the remote start option of the parameters mentioned above. That way, you won’t even need to be near your PS3 to access it.

Let’s look at what content is available to you on your PS Vita via Remote Play and what you can and can’t do with it.

Games

There are several games available to play remotely on PS Vita. However, most are games and PSone classics. Only five retail PS3 games are available for remote play. These are:

• Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection
• PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale

To start playing any of them via Remote Play, simply insert the disc into your PS3 (unless you have the digital versions) and launch the game on your PS Vita. You even have the option to customize the drivers and image quality.

As for videos, you can use Remote Play on your PS Vita to play videos stored on media servers, as well as flash media and videos stored on your PS3.

Of course, Blu-ray movies and any other type of protected content are not compatible with Remote Play.

Unlike video files, you can view virtually any type of image file on your PS Vita via Remote Play, including all major formats like PNG, JPG, and more.
