Hello everyone, in this article we are going to take a closer look at AMP Stories.

I’ll explain Stories and what they’re used for, and then we’ll look at some existing AMP Stories examples, ending with a tutorial on how to create AMP Stories for WordPress. Below is a summary of the article.

Let’s go there!

AMP Introduction

AMP or Accelerated Mobile Pages is a new web format promoted by Google that is aimed at generating websites with a very light structure that allows almost instant loading speeds.

The emergence of AMP coincides with the new requirements and positioning factors introduced by Google in recent times. Google currently takes into account the loading speed (and therefore the usability) of websites when establishing their SEO positioning.

This is why AMP is so hot, and why you want to know what AMP is and how to implement it on your website.

In addition, if you want, you have to know that it is within your reach and will allow you to improve many important aspects when it comes to optimizing the SEO positioning, loading speed and usability of your website.

In other articles we have talked in more detail about what AMP is or how AMP is implemented in WordPress. In this article we focus on AMP Stories, a format implemented in AMP that allows you to generate visual content with this technology.

AMP Stories. What is?

AMP Stories is a format based on AMP that allows you to generate visual content through short messages with slides (called Story Pages) that together allow you to express ideas or advertise products.

The format follows AMP’s philosophy of simplicity, allowing it to generate visual content in a very simple way that is very usable and pleasant for the visitor.

The AMP Stories format is taking its first steps, but more and more media are implementing it as one more way to output their content.

In this format you can include images, text, video, effects, etc. All this with a fast loading speed and maximum usability.

Basically the format consists of three parts: cover (also called Cover), pages (also called Story Pages) and closing (also called Bookend).

I explain below each of these parts, let’s continue!

Cover or Cover

It is the first page of this content. It generally contains the title or name of the idea, news or product on which the content is about, accompanied by an image or a video.

It is the first thing that the user finds when accessing content of the AMP Stories type.

Pages or Story Pages

They are the different pages or slides that are part of the body of the content. I indicate a series of examples below, so that you can see it more easily.

Basically, the pages show the content through slides that can include text, images, videos, effects, etc.

Closing page or Bookend

It is the last page of this format, generally a conclusion appears here accompanied by a call to action or call to action, or a way to contact through social networks.

It is the last page that the user sees in AMP Stories, and is usually used to suggest that they carry out the action that interests us: continue reading other content, contact us, or follow us on our social network profiles.

These are the different parts in which an AMP Stories content is divided. Now that you have a little more clarity on what this AMP Stories thing consists of, let’s see some examples.

Examples and uses of AMP Stories

AMP Stories is taking its first steps and not many media have implemented it yet. Google has relied on a number of partners to make the format visible, including CNN, Mic, Wired, The Washington Post, Mashable, or People.

Here are some links so you can see AMP Stories of some of these media:

In Spain, the one who has led the initiative has been La Vanguardia, which has also implemented this format. You can see their AMP Stories here:

In the links that I have indicated you can see several examples of AMP Stories. At the moment, there are not many media that offer this format.

The fact that there are still few media that implement AMP Stories is an opportunity to differentiate yourself from your competition by implementing a technology that is currently implemented by recognized brands, but that is within your reach…
