Vans sues Primark for copying the design of two of its best-known sneakers

Vans, through its parent company VF, has sued Primark, accusing it of having copied the design of two of its best-known shoe models, the Old Skool and the Sk8-Hi, the company’s trademarks.

The lawsuit has been filed in a New York court and Vans accuses the Irish company of trademark infringement, illegal competition and false advertising. The truth is that the two models of shoes that he has launched on the Primark market are largely reminiscent of two of the hallmarks of the company specialized in skaters.

A wide white rubber sole, a black background and a white strip that runs along the side of the shoe in a wavy fashion, resemble the iconic design created by the North American company fifty years ago, and with lines on which the rest are based. of models -except the Slip-On or the Authentic.

Precisely, VF argues that the white side strip does not respond to a design need to be able to manufacture the shoe, but that it is an aesthetic decision, distinctive that it is a Vans shoe.

Primark sells the low shoes for 11 euros and the high ones for 13 euros, compared to the 75 and 85 euros that Vans charges for its equivalent model, before which the North American company understands that it is seriously harming them.

In addition, according to WWD Digital Daily, Vans has attached a series of comparative photos in which you can see both the similarities in the design and the similarity in the name, since they have been named skate models.
