What is an interactive map?
Although the explanation is more about digital cartography than WordPress, in the end both concepts are related by functionality and it is good to approach the explanation of “interactive map” so that you have a clear idea and can see its potential for certain web projects.
As the word itself indicates “interactive” is that with which the user can act, modify or manipulate in order to obtain the desired information and that in the case of “maps” (online or digital cartography) is used for the user to zoom, search, mark positions and establish, for example, the distance between two points.
In the case of “interactive maps” they are previously created with defined areas that are marked by means of vectors to which specific information is added, for example addresses of interest, location of businesses or companies, routes to follow during a visit, etc.
This information becomes visible when the user clicks (or touches the screen) in a certain area, through information balloons, images, icons, cards with postal addresses, photographs, links, etc.
Imagine for a moment that “treasure map” that you dreamed of as a child and that had a marked route, with different elements or obstacles until you reach it and a huge red X at the destination point, well, that but adapted to the century XXI. 😜
