Galán (Iberdrola): “Only the fools who continue with the government’s regulated tariff pay more electricity”

He affirmed this Thursday in Sagunto (Valencia) that 80% of Spaniards “do not pay the price of the ‘pool'” or wholesale electricity market, and that “only the fools” who continue with the “regulated tariff set by the Government “They pay more for electricity.

“80% of Spaniards do not pay the price of the ‘pool'”, he said as an “advertisement”, during a discussion in the framework of the presentation of the, which Iberdrola will supply with solar energy with an investment of 500 million euros.

Galán’s comment came when the president of the Volkswagen Group, Herbert Deiss, was asked how the full supply of the gigafactory will be achieved. Diess has pointed out that in Valencia it is very sunny and has commented that the kilowatt hour is sold for around two cents an hour.

At that moment, the president of Iberdrola interrupted Diess to make a parenthesis and state: “80% of Spaniards do not pay the pool price and 80% are paying less than in 2018 because taxes have been lowered”. This affirmation has provoked applause among the assistants, but Galán has added: “Only the fools who continue with the regulated rate set by the Government pay that price.”

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, who had already left the premises after presenting the gigafactory battery project that Volkswagen will build in Sagunto, was not present at this dialogue. Moments before these statements, Galán announced that Iberdrola is going to invest 500 million euros in the solar park for the battery factory, as part of the group’s commitment to invest 60,000 million by 2025. He recalled that Iberdrola is from Valencia and was born 123 years in the Salto del Molinar, on the Júcar river, a fact that has also caused the approval of the public, made up of political representatives of the Valencian Community and of business and union spheres.
