One of the circumstances that can affect people who receive an unemployment subsidy is having to request the extension (provided that it is contemplated) of these benefits. It is important to do it both on time and correctly, since otherwise the right to receive it will be lost during the days in which the irregularity continues, with the consequent loss of money in that period.
The State Public Employment Service (SEPE) that only those people who have not exhausted the entire duration of their collection can request the extension of the subsidy and provided that they continue to meet the requirements that said subsidy requires for its collection.
The process is the following. The citizen who approaches the exhaustion of one of the payment periods of the benefit (some subsidies can be extended up to two or three times) must be prepared, since the day of exhaustion of the subsidy is key:
-If the request for extension is submitted between the day following the date of exhaustion and the 15 days following the expiration of the payment period of the last monthly payment, the collection of the benefit will take effect from the day following exhaustion and the citizen will not You will lose benefits along the way.
-If it is submitted after that period, the effects of the extension will be from the day after the request is made, so the amounts corresponding to the previous period will be deducted.
How to request the extension of the subsidy
The SEPE explains that the way to request the extension of the subsidy will be different depending on whether there have been changes in the citizen’s situation during the collection of the already exhausted subsidy period:
-If the income of the citizen or that of the citizen together with that of their cohabitation unit divided by the number of its members have been less than 75% of the Minimum Interprofessional Salary (the income requirement for the collection of subsidies) at all times, you may request the extension through the Electronic Office of the SEPE, in the ‘Recognition of the extension of subsidies’ service.
The organization reminds you that to carry out this procedure in this way you must have a digital certificate (), Cl@ve () or electronic DNI. The declaration of family responsibilities and compliance with the income limits is also needed.
-If in any month the income limit has been exceeded, there have been changes in the family unit or simply one of the above methods is not available, the extension of the subsidy can be done in person at a SEPE office.
In order to receive care at one of the SEPE offices, it is essential to make an appointment. There are two ways to request it: at the Electronic Office, and by continuing to make an appointment or by calling 91 273 83 84 for 24-hour service, answering the questions on a recording.
