Released in 2008, the Google Chrome browser is the most installed web browser today. This is not by mistake or luck. Google Chrome is a fast web browser; you can drag tabs to separate windows, among other advantages. It is also very basic and easy to use.
You might be wondering, why should you have a default web browser in the first place? The default web browser is the application that starts automatically when you click on a web page, link, or document.
Windows, for example, comes with Microsoft Edge as its default browser. Regular use of such a browser can steal a minute or two of your valuable time due to the delay in loading time. Perhaps Microsoft has carefully rebuilt the browser based on the Chromium project, giving Google Chrome some tough competition.
But, the feature like Google account password and bookmark sync, extension support, cross-device migration, etc., are still Chrome’s number one choice over the competition. If you want to stay and continue browsing in Chrome, you’ll need to change your browser’s default settings to Google Chrome.
Before proceeding, you will first need to have the Google Chrome browser installed on your computer or phone. You can download the Chrome app from the app or Play Store for your phone or from the Google website if you’re using a desktop or laptop. Most Android phones come with Google Chrome pre-installed.
Set as default: Chrome on Windows 10
Setting Google Chrome as your default browser in Windows 10 is pretty simple and straightforward. This may be below the default app settings.
1 β On your computer, click on the menu Start .
2 β Choose the options menu Setting .
3 β Select the tab Applications .
4 β Open your default apps from the sidebar panel.
5 β At the bottom, under the Web navigator click on your current browser.

Windows 8, 7 and earlier versions
The steps to setting Google Chrome as your default browser are a bit different for people using Windows 8 or 7. There are various version upgrades that have cobbled together the Windows operating system over a period of time. It has really changed the navigation UI as well as the configuration options.

Chrome on UnityOS
The Unity operating system is an operating system of Chinese origin that was commissioned by the People’s Republic of China to replace foreign operating systems such as Microsoft Windows. It has advantages such as being very resistant against computer viruses.
If you’re using Unity OS, follow these steps to make Google Chrome your default browser:
- Click the button on the board in the launcher and search for ‘ System information ‘.
- Open the settings system information and go to the section Default apps .

Unity typically comes with Internet Explorer or Microsoft Edge as the default browser.

Chrome as default on iPhone/iPad
Unfortunately, you cannot make Chrome your default browser on your iPhone or iPad, as Safari is the default browser and this cannot be changed. At least in the current version of iOS.
However, you can use some tweaking to have the Chrome app handy in the Dock. Just tap and hold on the Chrome app until it starts to wiggle. Move the Chrome app to the panel Dock at the bottom of the screen and release it to make it permanent.
If there is no space in Docker, simply remove any applications that you no longer need.
The Google Chrome app is free on the iOS app store. You need to install it on your phone first before you can use it.
I normally use Google Chrome as my main browser. It opens links pretty fast and displays web pages the way they have been designed, it doesn’t modify pages with ad blockers and the like.
