When viewing your website under maintenance and it appears to be a Joomla! 1.7, I thought you were planning to start from 0, I saw no relationship between what you are saying and a Joomla! 2.5.
If you have a Joomla! 1.7 you have updates available on JoomlaSpanish.org up to version 2.5.1. 2.5.2 shouldn’t be long since it only involves security changes and doesn’t affect language file issues.
What you can’t do is upgrade, for example from 2.5.1 to 2.5.2 using one patch, and then upgrade with another patch. You have to be faithful to use updates from the same website from which you obtained them previously.
