Mahou San Miguel will install terraces without noise and without emissions in the bars

The Mahou San Miguel brewery is testing outdoor spaces for bars and restaurants capable of minimizing acoustic impact, as well as supplying energy and improving air quality. This will allow a 50% cost reduction for the hotelier.

Mahou San Miguel, a 100% Spanish beer company, takes another step in its firm commitment to the Hospitality industry through the launch of a pilot project for the installation of “Terraces with a positive impact” in its clients that allow a healthy and safe coexistence with the neighbors and contribute to preserving our lifestyle, so based on social encounters.

In this way, it intends to contribute to the promotion of this sector in which outdoor spaces have been a true lifeline for the continuity of their businesses and generate, at the same time, a benefit for society, providing important advantages in terms of reducing noise and pollution and facilitating accessibility and safety.

The terraces, which will be made with 100% recycled materials and from local suppliers, will incorporate sound-absorbing elements that will act as physical barriers to sound, achieving acoustic attenuation from 70 decibels, which is the noise generated by several diners talking loudly. at 50 decibels, equivalent to the noise of the rain, which will affect the rest of the neighbors.

These spaces, in addition, will be capable of generating thermal comfort through heating blankets on the tables that will allow, if we compare them with gas stoves. Additionally, the use of photocatalytic coatings in the facilities will enable an air purifying effect per square meter equivalent to that produced by trees.

The project also foresees the use of renewable energy for the lighting of the terraces, thanks to the implementation of solar parasols with quality and high efficiency LEDS that, in addition to having an environmental benefit and improving consumer comfort, will have an impact on a Cost reduction for the hotelier of around 50%.

“With this pilot project we want to turn terraces into intelligent, accessible and sustainable spaces for coexistence that, in the future, will become revitalizing urban elements of cities, adding value to both residents and hoteliers”- says Peio Arbeloa, general director of the Spain Business Unit of Mahou San Miguel- “We want to contribute to improving the future of the hospitality sector but also that of people and the planet”- he adds.

For the definition of all these initiatives, an “open innovation” process has been carried out in which engineering companies related to acoustics, energy, industrial design and digitization and architecture studios have participated, in addition to local suppliers that usually work with Mahou San Miguel.

Coexistence spaces

. Thus, the new terraces will incorporate interactive technology that will offer valuable information for the establishment and, in turn, a commitment to make users aware of the importance of reducing noise pollution.

Consumers, pedestrians and neighbors will also have innovative safety and comfort elements to contribute to the creation of true spaces for coexistence.

Mahou San Miguel, which has already invested more than 380 million euros to boost the hospitality sector since the start of the pandemic, is launching this initiative on a trial basis in various Madrid establishments and, depending on the results, will gradually extend it to its clients from all over Spain.
