Movistar Roaming: How It Works
Movistar Roaming is a service that enables you to use your contract or prepaid plan when traveling abroad, just like you’re in Spain.
With Movistar roaming, you can:
- Make and receive calls (mobile and landline)
- Send and receive SMS
- Browse the Internet
- Use WhatsApp
Note: Calls to special rate numbers are not included.
However, Movistar roaming is not available in all countries. Below, find out where the service works and how to activate it easily.

How to Activate Movistar Roaming
The Movistar Roaming service is included for free in both mobile contract and prepaid plans. It’s usually activated automatically, but if you’re traveling, ensure it’s on.
To activate Movistar Roaming in contract plans:
- Log in to the customer area using your credentials, via the app or website.
- Go to “Contract and manage services” section.
- Activate Movistar Roaming.
For contract lines with 3 months or more of service, roaming activates automatically. If it’s under 3 months, follow the steps or visit a store.
Prepaid plans have automatic roaming activation.
To enable data roaming, access “Settings” > “Mobile data” on your phone.
When you arrive at your destination, Movistar will notify you of activation and usage details.
Countries with Movistar Roaming
To use your Movistar plan abroad, identify the country you’ll visit and check if it has Movistar roaming.
In Zone I countries, use your rate like in Spain, at no extra cost. In other areas, costs depend on each country.

Roaming in Europe with Movistar
Europe falls under Zone I for Movistar roaming. You can use your plan normally, free, as if in Spain.
Note: Andorra and Switzerland aren’t in the European Economic Area, so they’re not included in your Movistar rate.
Movistar Roaming in the US and Switzerland
There’s no Movistar roaming in the US and Switzerland (Zone II). A €6.05/day bonus offers 500 MB for browsing in these countries.
Rates with Movistar Roaming
Movistar Roaming is included in all mobile plans, contract or prepaid. Individual or group, enjoy this free service.
For spending control, manage roaming in “My Movistar”.
For contract lines, access Data Consumption Control in Roaming for spending control:
- Information: SMS notifications at 80% and 100% usage.
- Restriction: Cease browsing at 100% usage; SMS to resume.
Roaming also allows accessing certain channels based on your Fusión Movistar plan.
