New Honor Magic 4, top of the range with a large screen and the most powerful processor

Honor has presented the Magic 4 and Magic 4 Pro, the most cutting-edge mobile phones that it will offer this 2022 thanks to the use of the most powerful hardware available on Android.

2021 was the year of Honor’s ‘redebut’, the first since it separated from Huawei in an attempt to dodge US sanctions. This was the mobile with which the brand returned to Spain, although as we could see, Huawei’s DNA was still in the device, but with the advantage of being able to use Google apps.

Today, Honor goes one step further, with the presentation of the Magic 4, aimed directly at the ‘premium’ sector; a terrain that Honor did not previously tread so as not to compete directly with Huawei, but that it is now free to explore. The result of this freedom is a mobile with high-end components, with the Magic UI 6 layer based on Artificial Intelligence for all kinds of scenarios, on Android 12.

The Honor Magic 4 immediately stands out for the design of the back, with a circle that houses all the sensors; while not technically new, as it was used on the Magic 3, it’s still one of the flashiest in the business. The company claims that the design has focused on maintaining symmetry, placing the sensors in such a way that one side is no different from the other. In the center, the “eye of the muse”, the main chamber. The mobile has a curved design, IP68 certified to resist water and dust, available in cyan, gold, black and white colors, and a version with an orange vegan leather finish.

For the screen, a 6.81-inch OLED panel has been chosen, with a high resolution and a refresh rate of 120 Hz, with a touch refresh rate of 360 Hz. The screen covers 100% of the range of DCI-P3 color with 1000 nit brightness peaking at 1600 nits. The refresh rate is adaptive, going down to 1 Hz to save battery when we don’t need the maximum speed. The HDR effect has been improved, being able to pass SDR content to HDR, and HDR content to HDR10 +. It also has a function that converts 30 frames per second to 60 frames per second, to eliminate motion blur in the image.

Photography takes center stage on the Magic 4, with the Image Engine mixing various sensors with computer algorithms to enhance photos. The main and wide-angle cameras are 50 MP, and it also has a 64 MP periscope camera, an 8×8 depth sensor, and a blink sensor that detects the frequency of lights. The lenses have been improved to increase definition and capture 18% more light. The periscope camera has 3.5x optical zoom, but thanks to algorithms, it is possible to take photos with 100x digital zoom. In addition, it can work in conjunction with the main camera to improve our photos, especially of landscapes by improving the sharpness of distant elements, which, according to Honor, represents a 160% improvement in image quality.

The concept of “Ultra Fusion Photography” is based on taking several photos in a row, and putting them together to create a sharper image that eliminates imperfections. The wide angle gets a jump in resolution that will allow you to create better photos, and you can also merge your image with the one taken by the main sensor. For video recording, Honor has focused on improving taking photos while we are recording, which normally do not get the same quality as if we were just taking pictures. Honor’s solution promises to be able to take photos of the same quality when we are recording video. Movie Master mode with IMAX uses Artificial Intelligence and the Log + 3D LUT format to avoid the quality loss that comes with the MP4 format. It also allows you to record 4K video at 60 frames per second with 10 bit color. It has passed the IMAX Enhanced certification.

On the front, we have two selfie cameras, including a 3D depth camera that will be used to unlock the phone using face recognition, and a wide-angle camera to take better photos with friends and groups.

Honor has given more importance to security, implementing encryption with a separate chip to store passwords and biometric information. The fingerprint sensor is ultrasonic for greater speed and security.

An interesting function is “Just say to me”, which is capable of directing the sound from the speaker directly to our ear, to prevent someone nearby from hearing our conversations.

The Honor Magic 4 is based on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, Qualcomm’s most powerful processor so far, just like other high-end models. Supports GPU Turbo X, an Honor solution to improve gaming performance using Artificial Intelligence. The charge will also be state-of-the-art, either by cable or wirelessly, it will be possible to reach 100 W of power.

Magic UI 6 will be the layer used, on Android 12, with the aforementioned improvements in performance in video games and functions such as widgets on the main screen. It is also compatible with Honor Share to connect with tablets and laptops.

The basic version of the Honor Magic 4 will be similar to the Pro version, with differences in the cameras (with only 50x zoom) and a single selfie camera, but keeping the same screen and the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. Fast charging will be stays at 66 W.

The Honor Magic 4 will be available for 899 euros. The Honor Magic 4 Pro will cost 1,099 euros in its 8 GB and 256 GB version.
