How to remove autofill passwords, but only from one device
If you want to disable or remove your autofill passwords from a device, you must disable sync and then delete your cache so that your passwords are no longer saved on that device.
With sync turned off, your browser will no longer look for saved passwords linked to your Google account online. Alternatively, you can also sign out of your Google account, but you will lose any saved websites, browsing history or other data.
Either way, you should clear your cache afterwards. We’ll explain both methods below, and then we’ll explain how you can delete your cache.
Remove AutoFill Passwords, but stay signed in
- In Chrome, click the icon its profile in the upper right
- Click again on the icon its profile once the dropdown appears
Now you have two options. You can turn off sync for everything or just turn off password sync.
For the first option, just click deactivate next to the sync with …@email.com at the top of the page.
Alternatively, you can turn off password sync, but keep the other synced information on. To do this, click instead Sync and Google services just below the power off option.
On the next page, you can click Manage sync ; this will take you to a page where you can choose which features to disable syncing for. First, click the switch sync all to move it to the off position. This will then unlock the other options. After that click on the switch passwordsto disable password synchronization.
How to remove password autofill on logout
This option will not remove your autofill passwords, but it will sign you out of your Google account, which means you are free to clear your cache and that will remove passwords only from the device you are using.
It’s a simpler option if you’re using a shared computer, but you might prefer the former option if you want to keep your browsing history and other data in sync.
To sign out of Chrome, open a new tab. In the new tab, click the profile icon in the upper right corner. The one inside the actual page, not in the browser navigation bar. then click Sign off in the drop-down box that appears.
How to clear the cache to get rid of autofill passwords
Whether you’ve signed out of your Google account or simply removed password sync, you now need to clear your cache to get rid of autofill data that has been saved locally in your Chrome browser.
To clear your cache in Chrome, click the three stacked vertical dots at the top right. In the drop-down menu that appears, click Setting .
In settings, scroll down and click Advanced . Scroll down and click Clear browsing data .
In the new window that appears, click Advanced and then click the check boxes next to Passwords and other login data Y Data autocomplete form . Finally, make click on Delete data . The autofill details will now be removed from your current device, but not from your Google account.
How to remove autofill passwords on all devices
If you want to remove your autofill passwords on all devices at once, follow the steps listed below. The process is much easier than the previous options because you simply need to access your Google account settings.
First, visit myaccount.google.com . You should already be logged in. If not, make sure you sign in and select the correct account.
On the left side of the screen, click Security . Then scroll to the bottom and find password manager . Once you have found it, click on it.
On this page, you can now delete saved passwords. Before you leave, you need to click on the Settings gear at the top right. You will then be given options to disable password saving. Click to disable Offer to save passwords and auto login .
If, after deleting your passwords, they still appear during login, you may also need to clear your cache. This may be different for each device and will depend on whether you signed in and used autofill on that device before signing in to your Google account.
Either way, you can clear the cache using the same method mentioned above. Below is a quick reminder.
