Repsol presents two Erte for 830 people in Puertollano and La Coruña

has presented two Erte for productive reasons at its refineries in Puertollano and La Coruña that affect 830 people between both facilities. The company adds three files in just two weeks, since it announced another at the end of March for the Petronor facilities that affects a maximum of 350 people.

The pandemic, due to restrictions on mobility, has caused one: in Spain they have been 23% during 2020 compared to the previous year -in April the drop was 61%-, affecting the operation of the company’s refining facilities , which have operated well below their usual level, and have made intermittent stops.

The situation is reflected in the company’s refining margin, one of the industry’s key indicators, which last year stood at 2.2 dollars per barrel, compared to the 5 dollars achieved in 2019. For this 2021 the company it expects them to improve to 3.5 dollars per barrel, after having obtained a clear improvement between October and December.

The oil company led by Josu Jon Imaz points out that these temporary restrictions are compounded by the uncertainty generated by the energy transition, which will force it to undertake heavy investments in facilities to achieve its decarbonisation objectives: it wants to be carbon neutral in 2050 and stresses that in all facilities.

Be that as it may, the company has presented today two Temporary Employment Regulation Files (Erte) for productive reasons for the refineries of Puertollano (Ciudad Real) and La Coruña. It is the third in two weeks, after the one he presented in Petronor (Vizcaya) on March 29.

In Puertollano, the Erte affects a maximum of 618 people with different degrees of involvement, 60% of the workforce, with a maximum duration of six months. The distillation units and other plants of the industrial complex have stopped, although the Lubricants, Basic Chemicals and Derivative Chemicals areas continue to operate.

In La Coruña, Erte is applied to 212 people, 31% of the total, also for a maximum of six months. The shutdown of the Coke and Vacuum 2 units is scheduled for April, maintaining activity in the rest of the production scheme and the schedule for the scheduled shutdown of fuels, scheduled for May.

At Petronor – where distillation has remained at 60% – the Erte covers until December 31 and affects a range of 300 to 350 workers, approximately a third of the workforce.

To these temporary employment adjustments, so common these days -there are 740,000 people in an Erte-, there is an Employment Regulation File (Ere) for some 50 people from the exploration and production area, according to the information provided by unions.

Repsol has decided to significantly reduce the number of countries in which it operates.
