Skoda puts a face to the new Octavia RS iV, a 245 hp plug-in hybrid

A few weeks before its debut in Geneva, the Skoda Octavia RS iV can be seen in some official sketches that show its main design features. The sportiest model in the range comes with a saloon and Combi body, and with a 245 hp plug-in hybrid engine.

The fourth generation of the Skoda Octavia is about to arrive. At the end of last year we were able to meet her live in the Czech Republic, her native country, and the truth is the sensations were more than good. That was a static presentation, that is, we did not drive the car, but we did get to see it up close to study its design, the materials that make up the interior, the different controls and functions. This new evolution of the Octavia, which will arrive on our market in spring with a wide technological endowment, points to ways.

At that world premiere in Prague, there was talk of gasoline, diesel and gas (CNG) engines; also some ‘Mild Hybrid’ and even a 204 hp plug-in hybrid. What we did not know at that time is that this new generation was going to have an RS version as the top of the range… a bit special. We have spent two decades seeing the name RS associated with the Octavia range with TSI and TDI engines (gasoline and diesel) quite rabid and performance. And it turns out that now, with the new generation, the most powerful Octavia will no longer be RS but RS iV. The ‘iV’ thing has to do with electrification, since this model will be a plug-in hybrid.

Yes, the new Skoda Octavia RS iV will move thanks to a gasoline turbo engine and an electric one that, together, will deliver a power of 245 CV. Cavalry more than worthy for an RS, which will show figures for consumption and emissions lower than those of the previous generation. At the moment, little else is known about this propulsion system, which, presumably, will be associated with an automatic transmission and will achieve sufficient electric autonomy to achieve the Zero Emissions environmental label.

In addition to this information regarding the engine, the Czech firm has revealed the first images of this sports version of the new Octavia. But he has not done it with official images, but with three sketches in which the fundamental design features of the car are visible. And the first good news is that in these drawings the two bodies (saloon and Combi) are reflected, so there will be an RS iV for all tastes.

In view of the images, the distinctive elements of the new Skoda Octavia RS are the black grill, the front with large air intakes and sports skirt, the large wheels or the rear spoiler. Except for the wheels, which are always the most caricatured element in the sketches and prototypes (because of their exaggerated proportions), the rest of the lines do seem realistic enough to end up printed with hardly any modifications in the final model that we will see at the Geneva Motor Show on next March 3. In this event we will know all the details of this sports saloon, also those related to its commercialization.
