Tebrio, a pioneer company and leader in the industrial breeding of the Tenebrio Molitor insect plans to build a plant in Salamanca for animal feed that will create 200 jobs with an investment of 50 million euros

Tebrio, formerly known as , is a Spanish company created in 2014 dedicated to the industrial breeding of the Tenebrio Molitor insect and its transformation into premium ingredients for animal feed, plant nutrition and other bioindustrial uses.

After his experience, he plans an investment of more than 50 million for the construction of a 7,000-square-meter complex that will allow the creation of 200 direct jobs and a production of 100,000 tons of food derived from Tenebrio molitor for human consumption.

At full capacity in 2024

The general director of Tebrio, Adriana Casillas, has indicated that they hope to start working in the first half of next year with a modular construction model. First of all, a first breeding module and the transformation part will be implemented and then the company will grow modularly.

“We work with insects that have their life cycle in 16 months and we have managed to reduce it by 3 -he said-. We estimate that in 2024 the factory will be at full capacity.

During the presentation of the project, the president of the Board, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, highlighted today that the Community offers all the facilities for investment and employment projects. In this sense, the regional leader has made available to the company all lines of support, both business financing and innovation, internationalization or agribusiness.

Fernández Mañueco has underlined the great news for employment and for modernization that the establishment of this project implies, which shows that betting on Castilla y León “is worth it.” In addition, the president has pointed out that Tebrio marks the path for the reindustrialization of the Community, led by efficient companies that are respectful of the environment. “It is the triumph of the circular bioeconomy”, highlighted the head of the Castilian and Leonese executive who recalled that this is precisely one of the transformation and modernization objectives of this legislature.

Two powerful tools are heading in this direction: the Circular Economy Strategy and the Climate Change and Energy Transformation Law. “We want a production and consumption model that generates sustainable growth and quality employment,” said Fernández Mañueco, who stressed that European funds will be used to the maximum.

In addition, the president stressed that the Community has great potential to develop the bi-economy as a source of investment, growth and employment. And he has trusted that other projects will join the one presented today in Salamanca while he has reiterated the support of the Board to companies that want to settle.
