The failure of the artificial islands of Dubai refloats: this is the new Europe

The economic crisis of 2008 or perhaps the lack of viability of The World of Island project – a group of 300 artificial islands off the coast of Dubai that make up a world map – caused only nine of the islands to start operating and most of them to lose between 10 and 40 centimeters from the surface. However, almost a decade later and with the crisis over, this project seems to be refloating with several real estate developments.

The last contract of The World of Island

Revolution Precrafted, a Philippines-based startup, has just signed a $3.2 billion deal to manufacture luxury apartments and a hotel of individual villas on the famed The World of Island. This deal was signed with luxury property developer Seven Tides, and Revolution Precrafted will provide the design, supply and construction of the apartments and villas on the artificial island.

Robbie Antonio, Founder and CEO of Revolution Precrafted: “We are proud and excited to partner with one of the best real estate developers not only in Dubai but around the world.” “We will manufacture sophisticated hotel condominium apartments and villas, designed in accordance with the type of luxurious structures that the public expects from us and from Seven Tides,” he adds.

Meanwhile, Seven Tides will be responsible for the construction of the jetty, the landscaping of the islands and the construction of the provisions for the main public services. “The luxurious look and feel of the hotel condominium apartments and villas will further elevate the status and image of the World Islands as the playground for the wealthiest and most privileged residents of Dubai and beyond,” Abdulla said. Bin Sulayem, the Executive Director of the Seven Tides.

The Heart of Europe

Nakheel Properties, the owner of The World of Island, was the first to revive investment in their project. In 2012, he opened The Island: a luxury resort with a beach club, bars, lounges, and restaurants. And he also presented The Heart of Europe project: a resort that covers several islets with luxury shops, hotels and restaurants.

This latest commitment seeks to bring together the best of the old continent’s design, heritage and hospitality in an impressive and unique environment: “The Heart of Europe will offer an unparalleled lifestyle and will be a beautiful peaceful refuge that captures the very essence of European life to create a memorable holiday experience that goes beyond imagination”, explains the promoter. This project is based on destinations all over Europe, spread over the islands of Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, Saint Petersburg and Central Europe.

The Heart of Europe will feature 14 hotels and resorts and some unique features such as: the world’s first climate-controlled streets (rainy streets and a snow square), Dubai’s first five-star family hotel, a six-star hotel , two seven-star hotels and ten five-star hotels.

In total, 51 European countries will be represented in a large number of cafes and restaurants. Ancient Mediterranean trees that are between 100 and 1500 years old (imported from Andalusia) will be planted. And it will have a calendar of events and annual celebrations scheduled that includes a circus festival, crayfish parties or the Oktoberfest.

The Floating Venice

It is a hotel complex that is inspired by the city of Venice and the first to be underwater in the world. Located on the islands of ‘The World Islands’, four kilometers off the coast of Dubai, this space is one of the most developed parts of The Heart of Europe and has planned an investment of 680 million dollars.

The Floating Venice expects to have a capacity of up to 3,000 guests per day. Visitors will arrive by boat, seaplane or helicopter at Piazza San Marco, where they can check in in an underwater lobby. Once there they will be able to access a wide range of leisure, entertainment and gastronomy. In addition, gondolas imported from Venice will transport guests to their cabins through the canals to “deliver an authentic Venetian experience to the Middle East,” explains the Kleindienst Group.

This complex will have 414 suites on four floors, where one of them will be underwater to offer spectacular views of the coral reefs. Also, it will have a wide variety of luxury boutiques and artisan shops that aim to bring the Venetian life experience. And throughout the year the commemoration of Italian culture and art will take place through the celebration of traditional festivals such as Carnivale di Venezia, Binnale di Venezia and the Festa del Rendentore

“As developers of our vision we align with Dubai’s ambition to be a leading global destination and home of innovation as the world’s most forward-thinking city. I am extremely excited and proud of The Floating Venice. Our goal is to change the landscape of real estate and hospitality and offer a new iconic experience. The Floating Venice is the epitome of this innovation and spirit, the world’s first luxury underwater ship complex,” said Josef Kleindienst, group president.
