The price of rolling tobacco from Marlboro, L&M and Chesterfield rises from today to 1.5 euros

The price of rolling tobacco from the ‘star’ brands of Philip Morris, Marlboro, L&M and Chesterfield, rises from this Saturday between 15 cents and 1.50 euros according to a resolution of the Tobacco Market Commissioner published today in the Official Gazette of the State (BOE).

The price of rolling tobacco from the ‘star’ brands of Philip Morris, Marlboro, L&M and Chesterfield, rises from this Saturday between 15 cents and 1.50 euros according to a resolution of the Tobacco Market Commissioner published today in the Official Gazette of the State (BOE).

The Philip Morris brand registering the highest increase after this price increase is L&M. Thus, as of today, the 80-gram package of tobacco for rolling or tubing goes from 11.70 euros to 13.20, and the 75-gram L&M Volume Tobacco from 10.90 to 12.40, which means an increase of 1.50 euros.

For its part, the 75-gram Chesterfield Volume Tobacco bag registered an increase of 1.40 euros, going from costing 11 euros to 12.40 and the 65-gram bag, an increase of 1.25 euros, as its price rose from 9.50 to 10.75. The 75-gram Chesterfield Make Yoor Own goes up from 11.55 euros to 12.70, increasing its price by 1.15 euros.

As far as Marlboro is concerned, the products registering the highest increase of 1.05 euros are the 70 g Marlboro Gold Original Tubing & Rolling and the 70 g Marlboro Red Tubing & Rolling. Both go from costing 10.75 to 11.80 euros.

Philip Morris’s decision, which last Wednesday already increased the price of these brands’ tobacco packs by 10 cents, comes after the Government approved a modification of tobacco taxes on Friday, June 29.

Specifically, in the case of cigarettes, the specific rate has been raised from 19.1 euros to 24.1 euros per thousand cigarettes, and the ‘ad valorem’ rate has been reduced from 53.1% to 51%, while that the minimum tax goes from 123.97 euros to 128.65 euros per thousand cigarettes.

In the case of the liar sting, your tax structure is also rebalanced. The ‘ad valorem’ rate remains unchanged, while the specific rate goes from 8 euros to 22 euros per kilo, while the minimum tax rate rises from 68.5% to 75%, thereby reducing the tax gap between cigarettes and sting. Regarding cigars and cigarillos and other tobacco products, the rebalancing occurs through the minimum rate.

ALTADIS UP THE LIAR STING

For its part, Altadis also increased the price of its brands of rolling pins by an average of 11.9% last Tuesday and its brands of mechanized cigarettes by 6.6%. The new prices imply an increase of 1.35 euros in the bite of Ducados Rubio, whose 70-gram container now costs 11.55 euros, from the previous 10.20 euros.

The leading Altadis brand in this market segment, Golden Virginia, becomes 0.80 cents more expensive in the case of the 50-gram container, which will cost 8.70 euros. For its part, the 80-gram container of Fortuna’s bite increases from 12.30 euros to 13.50 euros.

DECLINE IN SALES

The cigarette market has registered sales of 763.96 million packs up to April, which represents a decrease of 14.1% compared to a year earlier, for which 3,139.5 million euros were billed, 7% less , according to data published by the Commissioner for the Tobacco Market to which Europa Press had access.

Faced with this setback, rolling tobacco grew by 46.4% in volume, up to 2.30 million kilos, with an increase in value of 67.7%, up to 340.97 million euros, in a crisis environment economy marked by the cooling of consumption.
