The success behind Mercadona’s horchata: who manufactures Hacendado’s best-selling product in summer

One more summer, Mercadona once again fills its shelves with hundreds of refreshing products that are perfect for the summer season. Ice cream, fruit or gazpacho attract the attention of consumers, although not as much as . A product with which the Valencian chain has been very successful in sales in recent years thanks to its own private label, Hacendado.

Improved in recent years, such has been the fervor that Mercadona’s horchata has created that it has even been possible to see establishments where it is practically impossible to get one of the popular bricks. Of a liter, its price of 1 euro is another of the great claims of this product.

However, it is in its flavor where the best reviews customers have left. A successful private label horchata reminiscent of the typical ones from the Valencian Community and that, although it is sold throughout the year, it is in summer when it gains its greatest success in sales.

Among the most sought-after products of the chain run by Juan Roig, however, despite bearing the name of Hacendado, it is thanks to a company from Castellón where he makes his famous recipe. Desarrollos Alimentarios Frescos SA (DAFSA) has been responsible for this horchata since it arrived at Mercadona.

Born in 2006, although initially it worked exclusively for Valencian supermarkets, since 2016 it has been doing so as a supplier. A fact that changed after the purchase of this company by the García Carrión Group, responsible among others for Don Simón.

A movement that has increased DAFSA’s production by no longer serving Mercadona directly, as well as having repercussions on the size of the factories and the workforce that the company currently has, already under the guidelines of a Spanish food giant such as is Garcia Carrion.

The other two formats come from Alboraya

But in addition to this horchata, Mercadona also markets two other formats under Hacendado (beyond the 1-liter and 33-centimeter bricks). They are the one and the one that respond to the production of Alborchata and Horchata Panach, respectively.

Two companies based in Alboraya, specialized in this type of drink that is so popular in the Valencian Community. In addition, thanks to their formulas they have achieved a very similar flavor to those of the bricks, although always behind them in terms of sales and importance for Roig supermarkets.

Mercadona also sells horchata-flavored ice creams and granitas without much success in sales

Finally, Hacendado also has two latest products based on horchata. The and with the flavor of this drink, which the chain sells on its shelves thanks to the production of AIADHESA and Euroslushies. With offices in Alicante and Murcia, these companies are not so focused on horchata and only use it to serve Mercadona with what is their great success of the summer in two different formats.
