The ten most valued qualities in job interviews

The current labor context and the entry into force of the latest labor reform have completely changed the profile of the candidate demanded by Spanish companies.

Before, the importance was given essentially to the candidate’s curriculum vitae and to the years of experience accumulated in the sector in which the job was sought, now, on the contrary, the personnel recruiters prioritize personal values that the applicant can contribute to the company.

In addition, in the face of the new trend of candidates to simplify their resume, à la carte resumes have appeared, that is, specifically adapted to the job to which they aspire in each job interview. In this sense, specialization in new technologies is one of the skills most taken into account by recruiters and one of the most sought after by employers.

“Efficient organizations have always needed qualified people. The difference compared to a few years ago is that now they are looking for professional and, above all, personal qualifications,” explains Adelina Manzano, director of the Human Factor at Grupo Constant, with more than 30 years of experience in consulting and personnel selection.

Likewise, “Spanish employers want employees who show commitment, responsibility, involvement, a positive and proactive attitude and adaptability to current circumstances,” says Manzano, who has conducted more than 15,000 job interviews with candidates throughout his professional career.

Illusion is key

In this sense, in the current context, the personal interview in which the gestures and attitude of the candidate are essential to convey their value to the company is becoming increasingly important. “Transmitting enthusiasm for the job to which one aspires is basic”, explains the director of Human Factor.

On the other hand, Adelina Manzano considers that candidates should not be discouraged in their job search, but rather prepare each interview having analyzed the possible mistakes made on previous occasions.

“Inquiring into one’s own profile to find out what went wrong in an interview is very important, and it is even more important to prepare each interview specifically so as not to make the same mistakes again. Companies look for candidates for very specific positions, so candidates they must adjust their CV to the requirements demanded, highlighting the strong points of training and work experience that may be more attractive to the coach”, says Mazano.
